The contracts amounted to $ 22m and covered a variety of development, construction and infrastructure projects. All of the contracts announced related to three major facilities at Rayyan, Al Ittihad & Al Saad sports complexes.
The main contract announced today by Sheikh Saoud was for the construction of 2 multi-purpose sports halls awarded to Contraco. Each hall will seat 3,000 people and they are intended for a variety of uses such as handball, volley ball, basket ball and other large scale indoor sports events.
Other major works included the installation of light fittings from Philips by Darwish Trading worth $440,000. Tadmur Contracting & Trading are to supply $1m worth air conditioning by the Japanese manufacturer Daikin, and JAMCO will supply seating from Italian suppliers Venelli worth approximately $2.6m for the main stadiums. ITT will supply sports equipment worth $500,000 along with two massive electronic video display score boards from Daktronics in the USA worth around $ 1.4m.
The scope of works at the Rayyan & Al Itttihad clubs is based upon a substantial development of all sports facilities in Qatar ahead of the 2006 Asian Games. The contract announcements made at the QSi Expo form part of an overall development plan announced on Monday by Sheikh Saoud estimated to cost $1.8 billion.
