The program was held to engage QU students and community from outside of the university during the summer vacation, through many activities such as fitness training, religious lectures, trips and field visits to a number of cultural and recreational sites within Qatar.
Commenting on the women’s ending day, Fatima Al-Naemi, Facility Coordinator, said: “We aim to attract students to participate and benefit from the summer program. What differentiates this year’s activities is that we welcomed members from outside QU to register and attend the diverse sessions offered.”
She added that the program includesd a series of various workshops and training sessions in different fields that enhanced the ladies’ skills and help them discover hobbies, e.g. the art of crochet. The training sessions included swimming classes at Sheikh Jawaan Primary Independent School, equestrian and shooting sessions.
Reem Al-Boainain, an Administrative Coordinator in the section of Sports and Recreation said: “This year’s activities are so exceptional in terms of the expert trainers hosted, who are able to transfer their professional experience and skills to the female participants.”
Regarding the number of female participants this year, she answered: “We welcomed more than 62 participants with their friends and relatives.”
Hend Al-Temaimi, a participant in “Our Summer is Healthy and Fit” said: “I decided to register in this program to spend summer time by learning new things, advancing my skills, and making new friendships.”
She added: “The most interesting and invaluable sessions were the crochet classes, in which I learned to make pillows, table and bed covers, and mini-toys, using simplified techniques and instruments.”
Miss Al-Temaimi extends her appreciation to the crochet expert, Deena Al-Falasi.
The women’s the celebration included the opening of a photo gallery, distribution of certificates for all participants, and acknowledgment for the distinguished ones.
The closing celebration for men was held on Thursday, July 28th.
“Our Summer is Healthy and Fit” was supervised by: the staff members of the Sports and Recreation Section at Qatar Universityi. One hundred and fifty three 153 students participated in the summer program, which was comprised of several activities, trips and sessions, including gymnastics and fitness classes. Students enjoyed the educational and cultural atmosphere during trips to Karara and Qatar Bowling Center.
QU paving the way for students to communicate and become involved with both each other and the wider Qatari community, by offering such summer programs. These programs provide support to younger generation members, to enable them to advance their academic skills and strengthen their role as leaders in contributing to the community in which they live.
The Student Activities Department at Qatar University oversees four different sections: Sports and Recreation, Student Development, Annual and Special Events, and Off-Campus Opportunities and Exchange Programs. Throughout the year, students can enjoy a wide range of activities and programs presented by the Department, to enhance their experience at QU.
Moreover, the Department is a primary source of information about student organizations, student publications and student involvement.
