The German luxury watch brand A. Lange & Söhne has a very rich history, with the brand dating back as far as 1845, when Ferdinand Adolph Lange first established the centre of fine-mechanican German watchmaking in the small town of Glashütte near Dresden.
Passed on from generation to generation, the company was seized by the communist regime and expropriated in 1948, when Walter Lange, great grandson of Adolph Lange, was forced to flee from Glashütte. In 1990, when Germany was re-united, Walter Lange re-established the Lange watch manufacture in Glashütte to restore his family’s heritage with the same innovative spirit that once before had brought world fame to the small town.
The value of an A. Lange & Söhne watch is not only based on the use of the most precious materials or the extraordinary history of the manufacture. Most of all, it originates from Lange’s designers and master watchmakers, whose passion and diligence bestow an unmistakable character upon each timepiece. Only a very few thousand handmade watches are created each year by the team of 500 people who make each timepiece a unique work of art.
