H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced the launch of the Best Dubai Taxi Operator award in terms of daily performance and customers’ service, and other awards as well for the Top Ten Taxi drivers. Winners of these awards will be decorated on the first of November each year; which corresponds to the Public Transport Day and the anniversary of establishing the RTA.
To this effect Al Tayer met senior executives of taxi franchise companies in Dubai namely Cars Taxi, National Taxi, Metro Taxi, Arabia Taxi and the Dubai Taxi. The gathering was also attended by Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, Chairperson of RTA Services Improvement Committee and CEO of the Licensing Agency; Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, CEO of the Public Transport agency; Ahmed Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Dubai Taxi Corporation; and a host of directors.
At the outset of the gathering, Al Tayer welcomed attendants and commended efforts of put by managements of taxi firms in realizing RTA’s aspirations for delivering classy services to taxi users. He stressed RTA’s unwavering commitment to continuously upgrade transport service by taxis in Dubai including capitalizing on smart systems and hi-tech in fulfilling the needs of various clients, particularly under the drive of the Dubai leaders to transform the Emirate into a smart city capable of bringing happiness to people and visitors.
“Thanks to the wise leadership, the UAE in general and the Dubai Emirate in particular have become an important landmark on the global tourist & economic map in view of the security stability, advanced infrastructure, and high-quality services in place. Moreover, the government policy advocates delivering best-in-class services to bring happiness to citizens, residents and visitors. From this viewpoint, we will continue upgrading the taxi transit service as it is a vital means in the daily movement of people, noting that the number of taxi users in the first half of this year clocked 106.565 million riders,” stated Al Tayer.
“This year the RTA opened the Drivers Qualification Center at Al Rawiyya; which is considered the first specialist smart training center for taxi drivers of franchise companies, and drivers of on-call deluxe limo service in companies in the Emirate of Dubai under the supervision of RTA Public Transport Agency. Through this Center, the RTA is seeking to uplift the caliber of traffic safety of all taxicabs, and improve the quality of service delivered to passengers; which will ultimately contribute to the happiness of clients,” he continued.
“There are several areas for improving and advancing the taxi service in Dubai highlighted by mapping out stringent standards & controls for selecting taxi drivers which must be adopted gradually in order to avoid any negative impact on the required recruitment rates, doubling penalty applicable to offending drivers particularly in offences relating to reckless and unruly driving as well as the misconduct. Improvement areas also include streamlining the procedure of handling complaints to ensure speedy response, re-examine taxi drivers training method and modules, explore the possibility of revising the working hours set for drivers, explore the possibility of revising the procedure of calculating salaries of drivers, minimizing the reliance on the commission system, and enhancing the control system by using digital cameras & devices to monitor drivers performance,” elaborated RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director.
Heads and representatives of franchise companies expressed their deep delight with the gathering as it offered them exposure to the futuristic policies of the RTA towards uplifting the taxi transport system, and provided a platform for sharing views about various matters relating to the taxi activity. They also commended RTA’s initiative of launching an award to decorate the best taxi operator and the best ten taxi drivers.
