The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently received a visiting delegation from Jumeirah Group, one of the key hospitality & hotel industry specialists worldwide cum member of the Dubai Holding Group to which major Dubai-based companies and projects are affiliated. The visit came in the context of the Group’s keenness to review RTA’s expertise and best practices in corporate project management, besides reviewing the goals, objectives and organizational structure of RTA Project Management Office and its accumulated experiences in this regard.
Ms. Laila Mohammad Fraidoon, Director of the Office of RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, Head of RTA Project Management Team Office, and RTA representative in the Global Executive Council of the Project Management Institute (PMI), said: “The meeting included a visual presentation about the RTA corporate project management strategy, various fields covered, and a host of excellent initiatives made in this respect.
“The visiting delegation was intimated on the details of the Projects Management Forum, which was recently inaugurated by HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, highlighting its objectives, which include upgrading the framework and potentials of projects management, and increasing the number of project managers with professional certificates in this regard. The workshop also reviewed RTA’s project management potentials in terms of leadership skills, setting priorities, and allocating the required budgets that facilitate managers operations. The workshop also highlighted RTA’s ability to manage relations with partners and stakeholders of relevance, besides compiling an integrated project data management system. The workshop also spotlighted RTA membership in the PMI Global Executive Council, Pennsylvania, USA, which includes 75 major international institutions and companies such as Boeing and Microsoft, and underscores its efficiency, expertise and maturity gained by the RTA in this vital area, which is gaining increasing importance in view of the rising investments tempo in Dubai emirate.” She also pointed out to the Dubai International Project Management Forum to be held in Dubai next September, which is organized by the RTA in cooperation with the Dubai Electricity and Water (DEWA), Emaar and the PMI.
Fraidoon reiterated RTA’s commitment to contribute effectively to realizing the vision and aspirations of Dubai shrewd leadership towards promoting the standing of the emirate in undertaking large-scale projects at the highest international standards of infrastructure and services, rendering it a focal point for the whole world. At the end of the gathering, the two sides engaged in discussions and a variety of questions were raised covering various project management topics that enriched the dialogue between the two parties. The Jumeirah Group delegation paid tribute to the visit and the benefits gained from the RTA experiences and expertise in corporate projects management.
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, the RTA organizes ‘Dubai International Project Management Forum,’ in collaboration with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Emaar Properties and the Project Management Institute (PMI), during the period from 28 to 30 September 2014. The event, which will feature a huge international participation, will discuss several key topics such as maximizing the return on government investment in infrastructure projects, linking corporate development projects with corporate strategic plans, highlighting the role of project management offices in government agencies, and stressing the importance of partnering with the private sector in undertaking mega projects.
