RTA to hold Dubai International Project Management Forum

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday announced in a broad press conference held yesterday at the Address Downtown Hotel in Dubai its intention to hold the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF) during the period 28-30 September 2014, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, in collaboration with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Emaar Properties, and the Projects Management Institute in Dubai (GCC branch based in the UAE).

The Conference was attended by Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee and CEO of RTA Licensing Agency; Dr. Yousef Ibrahim Al Akraf, Executive Vice President for Corporate Support and Human Resources at DEWA and Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the DIPMF; Ms. Laila Taher Faridoon, Director of the Event and Director of the Office of RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director; Reyadh Ayesh, President of GCC Projects Management Institute; Ahmed Aghdani, CEO of Government Relations & Development, Emaar Properties; and a host of Directors and media representatives in the UAE.

The conference was kicked off by a speech by Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan in which he welcomed attendants and stressed RTA’s commitment to hold events that contribute to uplifting the profile of the UAE in general and the Emirate of Dubai in particular in various fields including projects management in which the RTA had gained tremendous experience through managing a portfolio comprising more than 250 projects with an annual aggregate budget of more than 4 billion dirham. These diverse projects range from mega projects such as the Dubai Tram and key road and interchanges projects to smart specialized technological projects for uplifting the smart services in keeping with the drive of the Dubai Government to transform Dubai into the world’s smartest city.

“This initiative of holding the DIPMF by the RTA clearly illustrates Dubai’s standing readiness to play a role in leading the development drive across the region at all fronts, especially that the Emirate enjoys sound security, stability and solid infrastructure that attract investors and business leaders from all over the world.

“In view of the importance of Projects Management and the key role it plays in establishing various types of businesses, the RTA, as a leading international organization, has took the initiative to organize this important global event.

“The forum aims to shed more light on Dubai as a leading city in the project management industry as its successes in this field are crystalized in adopting superior international standards in a series of mega projects that have attracted a wide global attention such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai Metro, airport projects, giant ports, uniquely designed architecture, to name few.

“The forum will focus on the vital role of project management in managing and streamlining the business process in public and private organizations. It will also cover program management to harmonize between various projects to realizing common objectives set diverse projects,” added Bahrozyan.

The Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the DIPMF and CEO of RTA Licensing Agency expected the event to be make a remarkable success with a large international participation from different countries throughout the world.

For his part Dr. Yousef Ibrahim Al Akraf, Executive Vice President for Corporate Support and Human Resources at DEWA and Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the DIPMF, expressed his deep delight and said: “I’m pleased to be with you here on this day representing DEWA as one of the key organizers and supporters of the DIPMF 2014; which is organized by the RTA, to ensure that it realizes its intended objectives in a way befitting the Emirate of Dubai.”

“Hosting this event comes in the context of the commitment of our wise leadership to embrace international events capable of boosting the standing of Dubai Emirate, and showcasing the achievements made in the field of project management; which echo the achievements made by Dubai on the ground in planning, and constructing giant projects in the field of infrastructure as well as service and property projects. This would contribute to raising the profile of Dubai as a global hub for finance, business, investment and tourism. Moreover, DEWA participation will enrich all events of the conference in terms of discussion panels and workshops,” added Al Akraf.

For her part, Ms. Laila Faridoon, Director of the Office of RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, and Director of the Event, said: “Through the concerted efforts and the interaction between the participants in the Forum, the event promises to be hugely successful. Participants as well as attendants will be privileged with great opportunities for benefiting from practices and cases to be reviewed in the Forum in view of diversities, solutions and remedies experienced during the progress of various projects.”

Dubai, she says, used to host international events and create others capable of making wide publicity not only at the regional level, but also across the globe as evidenced by a host of strategic initiatives such as the DIPMF which will be held by the RTA next September.

“The event, she says, will be hosting internationally renowned keynote speakers representing diverse sectors with extensive experiences in project management, and the event is expected to attract more than 2000 persons, and 32 speakers. It will also have 7 discussion panels, 6 parallel sessions and 5 workshops during the days of the event,” continued Faridoon.

“One of the prominent experiments that will be highlighted in this event is Dubai with its all outstanding features rendering it a global success story and an example to be emulated not only across the region, but worldwide,” she added. The Forum will also introduce a number of significant topics including: Project Management in Arts, where Dubai has a rich legacy example of which include Dubai Cinema Festival, Arts Forums, international drawing expos, and the Union Gallery the construction of which is undertaken by the RTA. It will also showcase Project Management in Sports, include the Dubai International Tennis Championships, Dubai Marathon, Dubai Cycling Tour, Soccer Championships, Beach Volleyball Championships and several other regional, continental and international championships. Among other important topics featuring in the event is the Project Management Office (PMO), and Leadership as they play a key and crucial role in the success of projects. Other key topics also include Governance of entities and businesses, Smart Cities which reflect the drive of the UAE in general and Dubai Government in particular in making Dubai the smartest city worldwide within three years, Infrastructure & Architectural & Engineering projects, Sustainability of all aspects of energy, public transport and the environment, Managing Volunteering Projects in order to boost this aspect amongst various community segments, and the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) as it has considerable importance in achieving the integration in the management of various projects.

“Over three days, participants will have the options of engaging in a number of sessions, panel discussions, and workshops that will be conducted by a host of experts and specialists in the field of project management from government, semi-government and private sectors,” she added.

Riyadh Ayesh, President of GCC Projects Management Institute (UAE), commended the prominent contribution of the RTA to the prosperity of the Dubai Emirate, thanks to the lineup of advanced infrastructure and transit projects carried out in the Emirate. “I would wish to reiterate the unremitting commitment of the Projects Management Institute to lend all sorts of support necessary for the success of the Dubai International Project Management Forum. We will work hand-in-hand with the RTA in the light of our existing partnership to make the event platform for triggering a host of other project management initiatives in the foreseeable future,” said Ayesh in a concluding remark.

It is worth-mentioning that the RTA is considered the first government entity in the Middle East that has obtained the membership of the Global Executive Council of the Project Management Institute; which includes prominent members such as NASA, Being, Microsoft, General Electric, Citi Bank and the IBM.
