At a spectacular ceremony at Grand Hyatt, The Mix, in Dubai, a glitzy line-up of the cream of Arabic cinema turned up to celebrate the launch.
Nissar Nagro, General Manager of Rotana Holding Group and Dr Hala Sarhan, General Manager of Rotana Cinema Channel, unveiled Rotana Cinema’s exclusive offering which draws on the biggest library of Arabic movies in the Middle East. Dr Hala said: “Our film library is unrivalled anywhere and it is believed to include more than 70 per cent of all the movies that have been made in Arabic.
“We also have big plans for the future and for our own productions. We are planning crossovers between the music and film industries. We will use superstars from the music industry in our future film production projects.”
In an unprecedented move that signals its commitment to the regional movie industry, Rotana TV has pledged to act as the curator for Middle East films. It has acquired state-of-the-art equipment that has the capability to create digital versions of old black and white movies to bring them up to cinema standards.
