Villa Rotana Dubai supports Boldtalks women

An intimate and impactful gathering centered on story telling and live journalism, BOLDtalks Woman 2013 brings together women from all over the world.

From CEOs to grassroots activists and firebrand dissidents, this event brings to light the incredible stories of women—looking at both their challenges and triumphs—and inspiring solutions to women’s issues.

BOLDtalks Woman 2013 is scheduled to take place on Saturday 4th May 2013 at the Madinat Theatre from 10 am – 5 pm.

“BOLDtalks Woman 2013 is a great initiative that fulfils our commitment towards community and the fact that all those names will be our guests is an honor especially that they have cut all of this distance to support so I hope their stay with us will be an enjoyable and memorable one” commented Kinan Al Ghraoui, the General Manager of Villa, Rihab and Rimal Rotana.

This exclusive one-day event will feature an illustrious line up of regional and international speakers presenting on diverse matters centring on issues related to women’s wellbeing – with particular focus on women’s wellness, health, education, entrepreneurship, empowerment, inspirational stories, women in art and culture, and so forth. This event is not exclusive to women, as men are encouraged to participate too!

Fighting so-called Honour Killings
Rana Husseini

Rana is an award-winning journalist and human rights activist who has dedicated her life tackling issues related to violence against women – particularly the regional practice of “Honour Killings”. From her home base in Jordan, Rana has been instrumental in bringing the issue of honour crimes against women to public attention and for securing changes to the law in Jordan that brings stronger penalties for crimes of these types. Rana is an author of “Murder in the Name of Honour”.

Operation Babylift
Cath Turner

Cath is a reporter for Al Jazeera news channel. Cath also happens to be a victim of the controversial “Operation Babylift” that was orgnaised by the US Government during the Vietnam war, flying-out thousands of babies during the conflict. Cath has been a subject of an Award wining documentary that investigates her life story of searching and meeting her biological mother 38 year after their separation.

Yemen, through the eyes of women
Nadia Al-Sakkaf

Nadia examines women’s status pre and post the recent uprising in Yemen. In 2005 Nadia became the chief editor of the Yemen Times, the country’s first and most widely read independent English newspaper, and quickly became a leading voice in Yemen and worldwide media on issues of media, gender, development and politics. Under her leadership several publications were created, especially those for the advocacy of women’s participation in politics such as “Breaking the Stereotype” and “LEAD.”

Forgiveness: a Moral Minefield

Marina is an award-winning journalist who in 2003 embarked on a project collecting stories in words and portraits of people who had lived through violence, tragedy or injustice and sought forgiveness rather than revenge. “The Forgiveness Project” that uses the real stories of victims and perpetrators of crime and violence to explore how ideas around forgiveness, reconciliation and restorative justice can be used to impact positively on people’s lives.

Empowering Cancer Survivors
Rania Amer

Rania is the founder and Board Member of Pure Hearts 4 Cancer. In September 2011 Rania decided to turn her experience with her mom’s battle against cancer into a program, which mobilized the efforts of volunteers who pledged their time to make a difference in the lives of cancer survivors seeking to lead an independent life.
Violin Moments

Nadine Artuhanava

Nadine began her musical education at the age of five with singing and Accordion lessons. Nadine is a Graduate of Belarus Minsk Conservatory. She has a degree as Orchestra Artist and Instrument Teacher, and has taught Conservatory students in Minsk.

She has seven years of experience in giving Concert performances in Europe whilst touring with the Minsk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Nadine is currently a violinist with the UAE National Symphony Orchestra.
