The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently issued parking permits for the disabled and elderlies at the Customers Service Center, Al Furjan Complex, Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR); which had been opened this year as a new communication channel to help serve and meet the needs of all customers, particularly the disabled and elderlies in this vital district in Dubai, making it easy for them to obtain permits in a hassle-free manner.

Sultan Al Marzooki, Director of Drivers Licensing at the RTA, said: “We are always keen on improving the services provided to the public in a way that meets their requirements and expectations, especially our customers of these two categories through providing them every assistance towards processing their works on time without waiting. We have therefore opted to offer the service of issuing parking permits through the new center in keeping with the objectives of the RTA to provide the highest levels of service to all community members in general and the disabled & seniors in particular.”

“Permits issued to the disabled are new ones that boast of a distinctive design including a personal photograph in a size big enough for displaying at the front of the vehicle and is usable at all parking spaces in Dubai with no strings attached. The size of the permit makes the information entered clearly displayed, rendering it easy for parking inspectors to review the details,” he continued.

Al Mazroui explained the categories of the disabled parking permits; which include the Permanent Permit valid for up to five years issued to those who have permanent disability such as wheelchair users, mentally retarded, autistic and amputees. The permit is valid at various public realms, recreational as well tourist facilities in Dubai. There is also a Temporary Permit, which is valid for a period ranging from one month to one year, and covers those who have temporary disability. Elderly Permit, which is valid for 5 years, is issued to those over 60.

“Other permits where stickers are placed on the front windshield of the vehicle include: permits for vehicles of the disabled rehabilitation centers valid for a period terminating with the expiry of the vehicle license and is issued to vehicles and buses dedicated for transporting employees of rehabilitation centers as well as the disabled, whereby these vehicles and buses can be used in various parts of Dubai. There is also a permit for individuals suffering chronic diseases with a validity linked to the medical report endorsed by the Dubai Health Authority entitling holders to park within the confines of the hospital only,” explained Al Marzooki.

As for the permit issued to individuals arriving from abroad on visit to Dubai, Al Marzooki said: “This permit is linked to the duration of the visit only, provided the entry visa must have been issued from the Emirate of Dubai and indicating that the holder is a disabled. Such a permit can be used in various tourist, recreational and public facilities as well as hotels and public parks in Dubai.

“All the seven permits differ from each other in terms of the requisites of application & documents which can be obtained through RTA website (www.rta.ae) or the Call Center (8009090) in order to deliver services at the highest international standards, and achieve the highest standards of quality offering streamlined processes for customers to access services.
