The Higher Organizing Committee of the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) urged the UAE business community, comprising public & semi-public entities as well as private firms operating in the UAE to expedite the submission of their nominations for the award from the start of the registration process for the 7th edition of the award set for September 1st.
Nasir Bu Shehab, Deputy Chairman of the DAST Higher Organizing Committee, said: “The committee has come through a number of milestones and completed preparations for kicking start the organization of the seventh round of the award.
“Registration in various categories of DAST can be made through the award’s portal in a simple process that saves time & effort of participants, and enhances the e-Government practices the Dubai Government is keen to adopt in order to streamline procedures for all customers. The deadline for receiving submissions to the award will be Thursday 30 October 2014.
“Since inception, DAST Higher Organizing Committee has been endeavouring to improve processes in keeping with the phenomenal advances and improvements marking RTA’s projects & initiatives, broaden the participation in the award to attract the participation of more government & quasi government agencies and private businesses to contribute to improving sustainable transport in the UAE and keep pace with the efforts made by the RTA in this field,” continued Bu Shehab.
“DAST is considered a practical manifestation of RTA’s strategy focused on enhancing the implementation of its vision of providing Safe and Smooth Transport for All in keeping with the massive development witnessed by the Emirate of Dubai in various business, commercial, economic, tourist, and real estate sectors among other vital sectors. This initiative is viewed an important step in engaging the business community, government & semi-government and private organizations to team up with the efforts of the RTA to enhance the integration of various transit modes,” added the Deputy Chairman of DAST Higher Organizing Committee.
DAST Higher Organizing Committee announced earlier this year the introduction of a new category to the award categories i.e. Smart Transportation Applications; which caters to all initiatives and practices relating to smart applications in sustainable transport with the objective of developing new concepts enriching the award and ultimately contributing to broadening and uplifting the standing of the award in serving mass transportation in general and sustainable transport in particular.
Besides that, the award will have two new subsidiary categories starting from the 7th DAST 2014 namely: Sustainable Transport Projects contributed by university and school students, and the Most Frequent Users of Public Transport Means in Dubai Emirate including public buses, metro, Water bus, Water Taxi and various types of abras.
“Through launching this Award, the RTA intends to hit a number of objectives including educating & encouraging individuals and social organizations to play an active and positive role in supporting & assisting the realizations of RTA’s objectives in developing the infrastructure and means of public transport, and showcasing the leading role of the RTA in bolstering the partnership & cooperation between various entities & strategic partners in the field of transport, safety and conserving the environment. The award also seeks to enhance the importance of sustainable transport to make it part of the key concerns of various business organizations, raise the awareness and embed the sense of responsibility & initiative amongst various community segments, particularly firms and establishments, foster successful initiatives in the fields of mobility, safety and environment and spread them across the business community, and motivate the creativity, pioneering spirit and the initiative in a host of mobility aspects to maximize the benefit of all parties.
The Deputy Chairman of DAST anticipated that the forthcoming seventh edition of DAST 2014 would make greater successes compared with the preceding six rounds, thanks to the unlimited support accorded by the Government of Dubai, particularly HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council in his capacity as patron of the Award, in propping up the relentless efforts of the RTA in this field.
