RTA will host the 2nd International Road Safety Conference in November 2006

This was announced at a press conference held today at the RTA, which was attended by Eng. Maitha Mohammad Bin Adai, Chief Executive officer, Traffic and Roads Agency, Mohammed Bin Hendi, Under secretary Administrative and Financial Affairs in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Aysha Al Busmait, Director of the Marketing and Corporate Communication Department and Dr. Ghassan Daban, Managing Director of the Smart Vision Company, the organizer of the conference, among other sponsors and supporters organizations.

‘The objectives behind organizing this international conference, is to provide a platform for the discussion of road safety research & practice, in order to reduce road crash trauma and to ensure that decision makers are adequately informed about the effectiveness of crash countermeasures,’ said, Eng. Maitha Bin Adai.

Bin Adai said that the 2006 conference will provide a stimulating program that aims to achieve the identify and address critical issues relating to continued road safety advances and to investigate the importance of potential determinants of motor vehicle-related crashes and injuries among young drivers.

Along with other principles the conference will assist also in the development of a safer driving policy and implementation of a safer driving program, in order to support the policy. It will be the ideal premises to exchange information, experiences and views on developments and best practices in road safety research, policies and education; it will improve communication, understanding, and awareness of driving behaviour issues, in order to facilitate cooperation.

Eng. Maitha has called upon all private, government, social and civilian organizations including educational and academic institutions to play an additional role and to contribute in the campaigns, initiatives, policies and all activities related to the roads and public safety.

Meanwhile Dr. Aysha Al Busmait has called upon media organizations along with newspapers to take the initiative in guiding the young drivers for the best practices and the ideal ways of driving through oriented and attractive media programs.

Dr. Busmait called upon Media also not only to cover the activities of the International safety conference, but also to be a part of the event through strong and comprehensive coverage.

Dr. Ghassan Daban, said that, as a result of the success of the 2004 session, this year’s event “Road Safety without Borders” Conference has gained the support of 20 international road safeties and transport organizations including the United Nations.

‘This conference is a unique event that offers a fresh focus on safety developments in road, vehicle and driver safety, including injury prevention. Road accidents in the Middle East are currently the ninth highest cause of death and they are anticipated to rise to third place by 2020. Every year in the UAE, road accidents cause hundreds of deaths and thousands injuries,” Dr. Ghassan added.
