Welsh exports to the UAE have increased from £34 million in 2003, £69 million in 2004 and to over £76 million in the first six months of 2005.
This dramatic increase follows the establishment of a dedicated Welsh office in Dubai in 2004 established by WalesTrade International.
Among the exhibitors on the WTI stand is fire detection systems specialist Rafiki Protection Limited which is launching a UAE-based operation at the show together with two important new product ranges for the Middle East market.
Following a strategic decision to build a strong presence in the Middle East, Rafiki is launching a dedicated operation in Sharjah, in the UAE’s Saif-Zone.
Rafiki sales and marketing director, Phil Witts, said: “At present the Middle East market dwarfs the UK construction market in its growth potential. For example, in the UAE there are currently some 500 tower blocks under construction – this compares with fewer than 100 across the UK at present.
“The UAE has a long term strategic plan over the next 15 years that allows us also to plan strategically for this market. We believe that Intersec presents us with a powerful opportunity to break into the Middle East market.”
Joining Rafiki on the WTI stand are IEA Ltd, International Safety Components Limited and Tecsec Europe.
Tecsec Europe is launching its highly innovative Sherpa rapid deployment surveillance System into the Middle East market at the show.
Unique in the CCTV industry, this product is portable and can be deployed in just minutes, requiring only two people with no special tools or equipment.
Tecsec spokesman, Jeff Spittle said: “Proven in the UK market, we believe that our system will be well received in the Middle East.”
International Safety Components Limited showcases a wide range of products for the height safety industry which includes arborists, fire & rescue, rope access, and other industrial fall protection users, as well as the motor racing, military and other specialist markets.
Meanwhile, among IEA’s product range is the innovative TidoN Service solution, which uses web-based and mobile technologies to provide efficient management of any field-based operations.
WalesTrade International representative, Lee Jennings said: “Combining quality and reliability, Welsh manufacturers are enjoying considerable success in the Middle East.
“Following the opening of a dedicated WalesTrade International office in Dubai, Welsh exports to the UAE are performing particularly well.”
