MATRIX42’s Empirum Inventory speeds identification of defective Dell, Toshiba and Apple Mac notebook batteries

Saudi Arabia: Monday, October 09 - 2006 @ 10:33

WAMAD International has announced that the free 30-day trial of Empirum Inventory solution offered by MATRIX42 has also been extended to the Middle East, allowing companies to identify defective notebook batteries.

The Empirum Inventory solution allows organisations to easily and immediately identify users who may be in possession of notebook computers containing the potentially hazardous lithium ion batteries with cells manufactured by Sony. MATRIX42 is the developer of the Empirum Lifecycle Management solution that allows companies to manage servers, desktops, laptops and mobile devices in an automated and efficient way.

“The Empirum Inventory solution provides a quick and effective tool, particularly given the growing number of notebook PC users in the Middle East, allowing organisations to determine within seconds which users have a Dell notebook with the suspect battery so that they can make a prompt exchange. Otherwise, for enterprises with potentially hundreds of notebook computers, finding at-risk devices can be a time-consuming process,”

said Graham McIntyre, Head of Business Development & Service Delivery, WAMAD International.

Empirum Inventory is a versatile and useful solution that provides an overview of all hardware and software in use, enabling administrators to track application usage and manage product licensing. It also ensures easy identification of hardware on the network that might not be able to support roll-outs of new software and operating systems with specific system requirements, for example. As in the case of the Dell notebook recall, it can immediately determine if any of the enterprise-owned notebooks are affected.

Dell’s recall of some 4.1 million batteries is one of the largest in consumer-electronics history. Its impact was so widespread that it affected approximately 15 per cent of its laptops sold over the past two years. Since the Sony batteries are used by other PC makers, there is potential for the problem to expand but with the Empirum Inventory solution, enterprises can effectively control the risks.

Empirum Inventory is part of the Empirum suite of total lifecycle management software for networked devices that allows companies to manage servers, desktops, laptops and mobile devices in a highly efficient way. The suite simplifies and automates tasks for IT staff, providing greater management control while increasing productivity and reducing costs.

WAMAD International, the regional distributors for MATRIX42 products, is a subsidiary of WAMAD IT Services Company, a major player in Saudi Arabia’s IT and professional services sector. The company is based in Riyadh and has offices in Amman, Jordan and Dubai in the UAE, through which it offers extensive experience and expertise in the areas of banking applications, Business Process management, payment services and cards solutions, PCs life cycle management, call centre solutions and outsourcing services to customers in the Middle East and Africa.
