wasl Asset Management has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Dubai (UD). The agreement will see wasl employees receive favourable privileges at the renowned academic institution, including discounted fees for courses and invitations to attend seminars it holds throughout the academic year.
wasl says that one of the aims of the new partnership is to actively assist in fulfilling the Strategic Plan 2007-2015, as envisioned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The plan relies heavily on manpower development and the education of nationals, with an onus on academia and industry forging partnerships and working in unison to help facilitate the goal.
“wasl places a huge amount of importance on the professional development of its employees and our new agreement with UD ensures that our staff members have access to the best education and training available,” said Hesham Al Qassim, CEO, wasl Asset Management. “Not only do these partnership ventures ensure the continuation of the highest standards of service for wasl customers, they help fulfil the Dubai government’s strategic vision that aims to see UAE nationals in leadership roles and positions of prominence throughout the country,” he added.
The main terms of wasl’s agreement with UD will see full-time wasl employees entitled to discounted charges on tuition course that are 20% less than the published fees. In addition, the academic institution will provide 10 complimentary invitations per academic year for wasl employees to attend workshops, seminars and forums that it organises. UD will also invite wasl to its job fairs to allow them to recruit UD graduates for full time jobs, work placements, summer programmes and internships, as well as provide access to the university’s alumni database.
Dr. Eissa Al Bastaki, President, University of Dubai said: “Signing the MoU with wasl Asset Management Group is in line with the University’s ambitious strategy to play a pioneering role in education and academic development in the UAE. Continuous partnership with companies and corporate groups is one of the University’s objectives to develop the academic and professional capabilities of employees, business professional and entrepreneurs.”
“The University’s reduced fees fall under its role to enhance opportunities for education across all slices of society, especially among local nationals,” added Dr. Al Bastaki.
The MoU with UD forms part of wasl’s ongoing programme of facilitating education and training opportunities for UAE nationals, the most recent example being its Entilaq training scheme. Commencing this month, Entilaq has enrolled a number of Emirati nationals aged between 18-25 years with the aim of establishing them in a rewarding career in property management. The programme is aimed at high school graduates who demonstrate growth potential and who are expected to make significant contributions at non-supervisory level positions in wasl. Entilaq 2014 is being operated by wasl HR Department’s National Development Section and focuses on Customer Service as a core business of wasl Asset Management Group.
“wasl’s commitment to investing in human capital can be seen in its annual programme of educational initiatives. These include partnering with external organisations such as UD that are renowned for their academic excellence and the setting up of in-house programmes, that provide vocational training for UAE graduates,” said Al Qassim. “This twin approach has already achieved great success in the six years since the company’s inception, with wasl’s emiratisation rate currently standing at 70 per cent. We are working on increasing this further in line with the government’s vision to promote nationals working in the public and private sectors,” he added.
wasl’s agreement with UD is the latest in a number of formal understandings it has reached with academic institutions in Dubai to offer training and scholarships for its employees. The organisation has previously signed MoUs with the Canadian University of Dubai and the American University of Dubai.
