Western Digital’s new-age drives receive overwhelming visitor response at Gitex Dubai 2005

United Arab Emirates: Sunday, October 02 - 2005 @ 13:34

An international leader in hard drives, Western Digital had a strong presence at Gitex, the largest IT exhibition in the Middle East which concluded recently at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where it participated in partnership with its authorized distributors. The WD pavilion had attracted a significantly large number of visitors during the course of the five-day exhibition.

The highlight of Western Digital’s participation at Gitex was the state-of-the-art WD Passport Portable USB 2.0 Drive, a high-performance 5400 RPM drive that is simple to use, light in weight and easy to carry. The drive allows for easy connection to PC or Macintosh laptops and computers, and is powered directly through the USB cable, requiring no power adaptor.

“The response to Passport Portable USB 2.0 and other WD drives at Gitex was nothing short of overwhelming, and in fact, exceeded our own expectations from the show,” said Hefeez Khawaja, WD’s Senior Regional Director, Middle East, Africa and South Asia. “Gitex provided us an ideal platform to demonstrate the benefits of our new-age drives, helping create greater awareness about the same amongst the region’s business community and the general public. We have witnessed a significant jump in sales, which indicates the increasing demand for hard drives and other critical computer components in the fast-growing Middle East market.”

In addition to the Passport Portable USB 2.0 Drive, Western Digital prominently showcased the WD Essential NetCenter network hard drives for small offices and home users. These drives are designed to facilitate easy sharing and saving of digital picture, video and music files across small office and home networks using a wired or wireless router.

The WD pavilion at Gitex also highlighted other key products, including the re-designed, next-generation WD Extreme™ Lighted Combo drives with 320 GB capacity, which deliver lightning-fast performance from the WD Caviar® SE drive inside, and the enterprise-class WD Caviar RE hard drives, which provide a cost-effective solution for dependable, high-capacity enterprise storage.

“Our uncompromising commitment to the quality and reliability of our hard drives has been at the core of Western Digital’s remarkable success in the Middle East. We will continue to strive towards introducing new innovations to the market to effectively address customer requirements pertaining to reliable and responsive information storage, both at home and on the job,” Khawaja concluded.
