Xternal enlaces Middle East landscaping industry with cutting-edge techniques for green infrastructure

United Arab Emirates: Saturday, October 30 - 2010 @ 12:23

Exhibiting at Garden and Landscaping Middle East, these products and methods are addressed towards both Commercial and Residential properties.
A United Nations (UN), recent survey indicates that 69% of water in the world annually that is meant for human consumption, is actually utilised by the agricultural & industrial sectors instead.

With an initiative to reduce water consumption for irrigation by half, Xternal Greencraft introduces HYDROFOAM. It is a sterile, inert and biodegradable foam which holds 70% water by volume. Hydrofoam is introduced into the root zone to absorb maximum water and nutrients. The water is released gradually to provide nourishment to the hydrophobic soils. It also retains at least 37% air, which is vital for grass and green growth.

Xternal Greencraft has trained a team of specialists to study different locations and help in setting-up the HYDROFOAM irrigation system.

In addition to reducing water usage, the Group also focuses on helping reduce energy spent on air conditioning whilst enhancing natural ecosystems in urban areas. Green roofs and walls on buildings are a major contributing factor to this goal.

GREENWALLS technology incorporates Fytowall® system which makes it possible to landscape impressive green vertical structures, using minimum space and water. The plants are rooted into the foam substrate crates, which are mounted in a special framework and fixed to the wall. The substrate is inert, recyclable, bio-degradable and light in weight. A unique integrated water and nutrient system could be adapted for the specific locations.

The primary cause of heat build-up in the Middle East is insulation, the absorption of solar radiation by roads and skyscraper buildings. GREENWALLS reduces overall temperature of the building, which results in less energy consumption. The area surrounding plants do not rise more than 4–5 °C above the ambient temperature. The natural process of transpiration in plants generates a cool and soothing environment.

Similarly, a Roof Garden is another alternative for growing greenery in limited or uneven spaces. The magic of Roof Garden System is the lightweight water retentive substrate called Hydrofoam RG30. This remarkable material makes the construction a long lasting lightweight structure. Hydrofoam RG30 has an estimated lifespan of 25-30 years. Roof gardens serve as natural decoration, at the same time they have a tremendous effect on air quality by reducing the presence of fine dust particles and producing oxygen. Middle East provides the perfect platform for incorporating roof gardens in their architecture.

Xternal Greencraft is at the forefront of green consciousness advocacy. Given the current situation in the region, Vik Rao, Chief Executive Officer of Xternal shares his insights, “I have been in the UAE for 38 years and have witnessed a rush for modernisation & industrial development. On the down side, this has its negative effects on the environment. The father of our Nation, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, paved the way for greening the desert and his legacy continues with amazing initiatives such as Masdar’s renewable energy programs and Dubai Municipality’s push for green buildings and environmentally friendly construction techniques. I believe we must all do our part in support of this beautiful country and world that we live in.”

In today’s challenging economical situation, conservation of natural resources has become a mandatory principle for the landscaping industry. In order to protect the environment and create economical security, corporations and individuals should favour energy efficient options over the conventional system. This year at the exhibition, Xternal will be introducing cost-effective water and energy saving techniques, such as water retention systems, soil substrate materials, solar and low consumption lighting and water heating.

Garden and Landscaping Middle East exhibition is a three-day event held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center from October 31 –November 2, 2010.
