This year saw four international teams from the UAE, Hungary, Great Britain and Pakistan compete for the much coveted Desert Palm Trophy, which was eventually won by the Range Rover sponsored UAE team.
The event is the brainchild of ex-polo player Pete McCormack who is driven by the desire to highlight and celebrate Dubai’s achievements in the sport of polo.
Commenting on the event, Robin Colgan, Managing Director Jaguar Land Rover, MENAP said, “The annual Desert Palm Nations Cup event has grown to become a huge success and we are delighted to have been associated with the UAE team who went on to win the tournament yet again this year. This partnership further reiterates our commitment to supporting this historic and regal sport.”
In addition to the main event, Range Rover offered exclusive polo lessons for selected guests, providing them with an introduction to the sport and essential tips on how to play. Skills such as riding a polo pony, griping the polo mallet, hitting the ball, the importance of safety and teamwork were highlighted during the informal training session.
Range Rover has been supporting polo for many years on a global level and has worked with world’s number one player, Adolfo Cambiaso for over five years in both the UAE and the UK.
