Staff members, guests, and local residents were treated to an evening filled with music and entertainment making the worthwhile initiative an unforgettable experience.
All non essential lights at Al Aqah were switched off between the hours of 8 and 9pm. The hotel guests were informed about the program on check-in starting a week back and a dedicated centre was created within the hotel lobby for guests to sign up to be part of the initiative. It wasn’t only the guests who took part but Al Aqah team members located in nearby accommodation were also keen to get involved opting for a BBQ with live performances by the talents within the team.
Guests were invited to celebrate Earth Hour at a candle lit cocktail reception on the beach front with a live band providing the entertainment. Lights were minimized throughout the hotel in all corridors, and public areas including the car park, swimming pool, garden and restaurants.
“Earth Hour at the hotel was received well by both guests and team members alike, happy to be doing their part in the fight against climate change. It is a really novel idea and the fact that this is a worldwide event, symbolizing that when everyone works together a positive impact can be made, certainly makes it all the more unique,” said Patrick Antaki, General Manager, Le Méridien Al Aqah.
