LAU hosts opening ceremony of 4th NGO Fair

The ceremony was attended by Minister Abou Faour, LAU President Dr. Joseph G. Jabbra and LAU Officials, Executive Director of Al Majmoua Dr. Youssef Fawaz, Head of Sustainable Development Section at the European Union Delegation to Lebanon Maciej Madalinski, Investment Climate Operation Officer in IFC Carol Khouzami, Director of ‘save the children’ Goran Todorovic and Director of the Office of Education, Democracy, Human Rights and Governance at USAID Denise O’Toole.

Dr. Jabbra started his speech with the famous quote: “l’union fait la force, and of course there is strength in the ability of human beings to come together in order to serve the common good.”

Jabbra added, “We are so happy as a university that we have established this annual gathering out of conviction that we together will work to achieve miracles in terms of our commitment to our society and our passion to serve society. You embody for our young people the notion of serving others so that others may have a better chance in and at life.”

“Your presence here will give our students the opportunity to show you what kind of talents they have in terms of serving society… if our country cannot give them that opportunity, you should do so,” Jabbra ended thanking the organizers of this annual event.

In his turn, Minister Abou Faour thanked LAU and Dr. Jabbra for all what they are doing in terms of social affairs and in terms of civic engagement highlighting that elites are working people who serves the society and who are engaged to the advancement of the society.

Abou Faour stressed on the importance of the work of NGO’s that sometimes replaced the government in helping needy people, thanking LAU and the organizers for this important fair.

For his part, the Dean of the School of Business Dr. Said Elfakhani explained about the experience of the School and the civic engagement course and how this material became a part of the curriculum.

Finally a speech by the representatives of the mentioned NGOs and international organization before announcing the new free mobile application for NGOs in Lebanon as an initiative from LAU in order to facilitate the communication between youth and NGOs.
