This new initiative from Majid Al Futtaim Leisure will provide visitors the opportunity to discover and experience a very high standard of quality entertainment. The activities on offer are set to continue the group’s program of innovation, as seen with its highly regarded development of the region’s first indoor ski resort; Ski Dubai and the evolution of its first Family Entertainment Centre brand, Magic Planet.
A total of five brand new concepts will be integrated within Playnation, the latest initiative of the group dedicated to some of the most innovative and original leisure concepts seen in Dubai.
Playnation, a single dedicated leisure and entertainment destination in the upcoming Mirdif City Centre is packed with an incredible range of attractions for all ages. This first fully featured leisure precinct is the one place where all the family can play, and play again. Spread over 12,000 square metres, Playnation will provide leisure and education experiences; that are refreshing alternatives to the standard mall pastime fare.
One of the most exciting new offerings at Playnation will be iFLY Dubai, an indoor skydiving centre. Clearly visible, iFLY Dubai will be the key leisure feature of the mall. This dynamic entertainment attraction will allow visitors of all ages to safely and comfortably skydive indoors. iFLY Dubai employs patented wind tunnel technology. This superior technology provides the safest, most efficient and realistic skydiving experience possible.
iFLY Dubai at Playnation will have two identical wind tunnels and customers wishing to experience the thrill of freefall without the danger of launching themselves from an airplane can safely don a jumpsuit, helmet and goggles, to ride a current of air that is blasted from beneath them by a powerful turbine. Experienced users will be able to execute twists, turns and somersaults in the specially constructed chamber, without having to leave the safety of terra firma. iFLY Dubai is expected to be very popular amongst the daredevils.
Fans of soccer, the world’s favourite sport that has been termed ‘the beautiful game’ will have a chance to hone their skills at the Soccer Circus. Players that fancy their talents to be on par with David Beckham’s will have the chance to prove it, whilst all the time being in an indoor environment. Shooting, passing and ball control can be practiced in an interactive stadium environment, which has a realistic home crowd cheering you on and a commentator reporting on your every success… and failure. The attraction promises to be a fun impulse experience for anybody, irrespective of their soccer ability.
For more sports action, there will also be five side pitches that will house indoor sports such as indoor soccer, indoor cricket, indoor field hockey, badminton and indoor volleyball. These pitches will be located next to Soccer Circus and participants and spectators alike will be able to experience sports action in the making.
Cite des Enfants is an edutainment concept that is unique to Playnation and is specifically designed to help younger children explore their environment through an interactive learning experience. To facilitate this exciting new venture, Majid Al Futtaim Leisure joined forces with one of the most visited science museums in the world, the Parisian Cite des Sciences et de l’industrie (CSI), to build their first Cite des Enfants outside of France. The essence of Cite des Enfants is on learning through play, with themed zones within the educational arena being ‘I Discover Myself,’ ‘I Can Do,’ ‘I Locate Myself,’ ‘I Experiment’ and ‘All Together.’ Each zone has been designed by a team of scenic artists, designers, educationalists, and child psychologists, to allow for exercising the body and mind and to foster cognitive learning.
Playnation will also be home to Majid Al Futtaim Leisure’s popular family entertainment centre Magic Planet, as it will open its tenth outlet in the region. The brand that provides amusement for all age groups, featuring family rides and thrill attractions has already got a strong presence with its nine outlets in five countries across the region.
New to Playnation will also be Yalla! Bowling, a 12 lane cosmic ten pin bowling attraction featuring advanced video simulation and video games. The attraction also consists of a pool and billiards area and a video games section. Whilst the concept of bowling is not new to Dubai, the look and feel of Yalla! Bowling Lanes and Lounge is fresh and is set to create a new benchmark in the indoor bowling experience. If all this activity causes a few hunger pangs, there will be plenty of food options available within Yalla! Bowling.
Craig Hart, Vice President of Majid Al Futtaim Leisure, says the myriad of options for fun and learning at Mirdif City Centre will be one of the centre’s main attractions. “With Playnation, Majid Al Futtaim Leisure will set new benchmarks in the regional indoor leisure and entertainment industry. We’ve lined up something for everyone. Our customers, children and adults will be wowed by the sheer line-up of indoor activities – amusement rides, edutainment concepts and much more. Playnation will be different from anything on offer currently in the Emirate and we are looking forward to inviting residents and tourists of Dubai to a very unique experience in March 2010.”
