This effort is part of Marriott International’s Spirit To Serve Our Communities Day, a worldwide initiative that enlists 133,000 employees from over 2,700 locations in 65 countries to deliver needed community service through volunteerism. Business leaders from 17 Marriott brands and businesses have pledged to dedicate a day to helping others during the third week of May.
Dubai Business Council Chairman and General Manager of the Renaissance Dubai Hotel Francisco Giles said, “By giving associates the opportunity to give back to their local areas, we carry on our company’s long history and deep commitment to community involvement. We want to help the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to fight child hunger in the world.
Since 1999, Spirit To Serve Our Communities Day has been a key component of Marriott’s company-wide commitment to helping others, called “Spirit To Serve Our Communities.” Dedicated to supporting communities throughout the world, Marriott’s “Spirit To Serve Our Communities” initiative generates millions annually in donations and fund-raising. The initiative focuses Marriott’s outreach in four key areas:
- Career Opportunities
- Family Services
- Community Partnerships
- Associate Involvement
Marriott’s “Spirit To Serve Our Communities” initiatives currently underway worldwide include:
- American Red Cross, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies – directs $100,000 annually to disaster relief around the globe.
- Environmentally Conscious Hospitality Operations (ECHO) program – assists hotels with energy and water conservation and recycling.
- Habitat for Humanity International – provides volunteers and financial support annually to build homes for low-income families.
- Spirit To Serve Our Communities Day – encourages all 133,000 plus Marriott associates to participate in community service.
