Venerable Cairo Marriott undergoing USD 40 million renovation

Egypt: Sunday, May 21 - 2006 @ 08:14

EGOTH, the Egyptian General Company for Tourism and Hotels and owner of the property, is underwriting the refurbishment program.

“This is one of the largest and most ambitious refurbishment programs ever undertaken in an operating hotel, said Uli Huth, general manager, during the celebration that was held for this event. “All of our guest rooms and baths, corridors, public space, guest elevators, restaurants, exterior facing, roof and spacious grounds are being restored. Even our swimming pool won’t be overlooked as we heed the request of our guests and install a heating system for year-round swimming.”

He added,

“We are using the highest quality local and imported materials. Each category of guest rooms ( Corporate suites, Executive suites, King bed, Double double) will have its own distinctive flair, drawing on the best of European design and Egyptian elegance which is being interpreted in sumptuous colors and lavish patterns that complement the stately opulence of the hotel.”

The redesigned rooms will be environmentally friendly, conserving water and energy as well as being outfitted with double glassing and sound proof windows, additional telephone lines to enhance the high speed internet accessibility already in place, and the addition of more than 60 satellite channels to insure every guest enjoys global connectivity. Air conditioning power is also being upgraded, and plasma screens will be placed in our presidential & royal suits.

Our new bedding package includes the finest quality 300 thread count cotton. Duvets replace comforters and new mattress covers are a luxurious addition, which help you to enjoy the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had. In addition, we’ve added lots of extra pillows and overhead pin-spot reading lights. While our beds are the most comfortable in town, the new level of comfort doesn’t end there. The guest amenities and the equipments available in our bathrooms have passed the expectations. Uli explained.

The first renovated guest rooms are expected to be in service by mid-2006.

To minimize guest inconvenience, Mr. Huth said that work is being carried out in stages with sections of the hotel being isolated for remodeling during each stage and entire floors being closed until all guest rooms have been remodeled.

Mr. Huth explained that work on the renovation began in 2004 and initially focused on the building’s façade and public spaces. “Our popular JW’s Steakhouse and Ristorante Tuscany the Italian restaurant have been remodeled and we recently opened our new Japanese restaurant Torii.”

Among services offered by the Cairo Marriott are a five-floor, 120-room Executive Level featuring an Executive Lounge and conference room; 14 restaurants and lounges; 24-hour room service; laundry and dry cleaning services; health club offering sauna, massage and exercise room; heated swimming pool and whirlpool; three lighted tennis courts; a gift shop; 24-hour business center; high-speed internet access in all guests rooms and wireless access in public areas; two banks; a travel agency; and a number of retail shops. For conferences and social events, the Cairo Marriott offers 14 multi-purpose conference and meeting rooms, featuring the 8,000 square foot Aida Ballroom.
