Maxtor will be holding meetings with regional partners and customers in a relaxed, informal environment, at an executive suite at the Emirates Towers Hotel. Maxtor will also be inaugurating its Middle East office, based at Dubai Internet City on 5th October 2004.
“We will have a stronger presence at Gitex this year, during which we will be celebrating the official opening of our Middle East office,” said Didier Trassaert, VP, Maxtor EMEA. “We will be meeting with our partners and customers in a relaxed environment to discuss market demands, opportunities, issues and plans they may have as well as share with them our plans for the region.”
Rajeev Mukul, General Manager, Maxtor Middle East, whose responsibility involves expanding Maxtor’s business in the region whilst providing on the ground support to Maxtor’s dedicated Channel in the region, had the following to say: “The opening of Maxtor’s Middle East operation reiterates the company’s commitment to the Middle East consumer and the enormous potential that the market has for storage solutions. Firstly, having a local presence in the Middle East comes in line with Maxtor’s desire to deliver on the specific storage needs of each market they are present in – part and parcel of being a market focused company. Secondly, it will provide Maxtor’s valuable partners and customers in this market with local support.”
Maxtor’s new company direction, which involves migrating towards a ‘market-focused company’ was first announced during their annual ME conference last March in Dubai. This evolution comes from a thorough understanding of the storage industry and a realisation that it has reached a critical inflection point and is no longer just about technology, its about being market focused.
Maxtor has invested and is continuing to invest a lot of time and money in R&D, to create ‘market driven’ products, services and programs. “Effectively, we will be better positioned to promote our growing customer base and partners both in the Middle East & Africa region and globally, through value add solutions that are highly flexible, market focused and cost-effective,” added Trassaert.
Providing simple, flexible and cost-effective back-up and storage solutions for a wide range of users is Maxtor’s key objective. Both on a global and regional scale, HDDs sold as retail products for home and small business use as well as commercial use, are on the increase. The Digital Entertainment market is set for phenomenal growth and is a key driver for storage solutions. “The demand for commercial drives in the MEA region is gaining momentum and we are allocating resources to meet this challenge and cater to more specialized requirements of the MEA market.”
In addition to market influences, technological advances play a critical role in influencing Maxtor’s direction, in line with providing advanced, flexible and cost-effective storage solutions that answer to the rapidly evolving needs of their customers. As changes ‘inside’ the drive are stabilizing, Maxtor’s focus is shifting to the interface of hard drives. “We pay particular attention to performance and believe that Maxtor HDDs have succeeded in achieving high performance at a reasonable price,” said Trassaert.
Demand for External HDDs is on the increase, the reason being is that they provide a reliable portable alternative on which users can save digital images and secure backup. Maxtor is continuing to invest in this consumer field with the introduction of a number of external devices including OneTouch (160, 250 and 300GB capacities). Desktop, volume servers, disk systems storage and high-end storage solutions are all predicted to grow in a steady pace over the next 4 years in the MEA markets.
