Sharjah Women’s College and meUNIVERSITY launch the 1st Mini-Branch in any Sharjah campus

United Arab Emirates: Saturday, April 03 - 2004 @ 10:38

The branch opened in collaboration with meUNIVERSITY, meBANK’s tailor-made package for university students, to provide students with the hands-on experience of running a mini branch.

Students in the college’s Financial Services Program will run the branch and be involved in providing advice, selling products and opening accounts to other students and staff of SWC.
To drive the students to be more aware of this activity, meUNIVERSITY has launched a competition amongst the Finance and Banking Students that rewards the student team that will be able to generate the highest amount of account openings, loan and credit cards sales during the 2004 academic year.

“I think that this gives us more opportunities to develop our skills and be good marketing people who can bring customers into the branch and explain about the facilities the bank can offer,” says Hamda Mubarak, Team Leader of one of the two student teams that will be running the operations.

In all eight students from SWC were chosen for the program and put through both product and customer service training at Emirates Bank’s Global Training Centre. After the training they were tested and are now approved to sell meBank products.

Ayesha Alhosani, the other Team leader was appreciative of the training and remarked, “During the training I learnt many things that I wasn’t aware of. I learnt how to manage the branch, how to deal with customers and how to explain things in a way that customers could understand. I would like to thank me Bank and my teacher for this opportunity.”

Dr Farid Ohan, Director of the Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology said, “in addition to the facility that the mini branch offers the college community, we believe that this is an excellent opportunity for our students to practice real world financial transactions in a controlled environment. We welcome the partnership with meBank and look forward to future training opportunities that it could open up for our students.”

Mr. Louis Scotto, General Manager Retail Banking Emirates Bank, commented: “meUNIVERSITY presence on campus, means that students are now being offered financial services during their education and beyond. We are pleased to be working with Sharjah Women’s College, it’s a well established institution which caters for students looking for a better future.”

“The aim of adding meUNIVERSITY to the list of meBANK’s products, was not only to finance their education, but it has also been designed to increase financial awareness and provide university students with the experience of managing their own finances.” He added
meUNIVERSITY is a tailored package, from meBANK offering a selection of banking products, including a Student Current Account filled with benefits, Tuition Loans, Car Loans, Credit Cards, and for the first time, Computer Loans.
