In MEFMA’s continued bid to bring transparency and standardization to the facilities management industry, MEFMA has marked out their plan to introduce a MEFMA Star Rating System (SRS) that will benchmark buildings and facilities and encourage best practice for integrated FM across the MENA region.
In a move which is inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, implementation of a star rating for all government services, MEFMA will introduce guidelines that reward FM companies that adopt international best practice in the areas of training, operational process, asset performance, building management solutions, maintenance and accounting.
The announcement was made at MEFMA’s recent Annual Confex and is another step in MEFMA’s ambition to implement best practice solutions for an industry that is set to be become a key driver in the global FM market reaching $397.69bn by 2017 as indicated by a recent report issued by Global Industry Analysts Inc.
Speaking of the importance of best practice, Jamal Lootah, President of MEFMA and CEO of Imdaad said, “Benchmarking our industry and facilities against globally recognised parameters is essential to driving up the standards across our industry as a whole. MEFMA’s SRS programme will instil a culture of continuous improvement which will lead to a higher level of customer satisfaction and return on investment for building owners and investors alike.”
Outlining some of the details of MEFMA’s SRS programme, Ali Al Suwaidi, MEFMA Board Member and Vice President of Idama went on to say, “once approved by the board, the SRS Programme will be applicable to any facility across the Middle East with the aim of ensuring safety, productivity, longevity and ROI. The SRS system will also benchmark the sustainable integration of the four core components of our industry People, Process, Technology and Real Estate.”
The SRS system is expected to be finalised and implemented soon with the backing of MEFMA members and government entities. The system is also set to play an integral part in the MEFMA Challenge Award Program which will award those buildings and facilities that meet the criteria of the SRS system with winners expected to be announced at MEFMA’s Confex in 2015.
