Mitsubishi Fuso has recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of Canter light duty truck. The first generation of the FUSO Canter light-duty truck came onto the market in March 1963 in Japan. Fifty years and eight generations later, the truck is now a bestseller worldwide, with global sales of 3,700,000 units since its debut in its home-soil in Japan.
And with the introduction of its latest Generation ‘the Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck’, Mitsubishi Fuso continues building on its success of the predecessor models. The Canter Eco Hybrid remains true to its Canter roots, offering a high payload, excellent ride comfort and a tight turning circle that’s perfect for towns and cities with its ‘world champion fuel efficiency’.
Commenting in this occasion, General Manager Mohammed Zaki of Zayani Motors (ZM), the exclusive dealer of Mitsubishi Fuso in the Kingdom of Bahrain, “For 50 years, the Canter light-duty truck has continually delivered on FUSO’s promise of ‘ALL FOR YOU’ to our customers.” He added, “Canter has proven itself over the last 50 years to be a very reliable and capable light-duty truck, not just in its home country of Japan, but around the globe.”
Today, the Canter is playing a critical role in the ongoing success of Mitsubishi Fuso as a company. As in Bahrain, Canter enjoys a long tradition where it has been sold since its introduction in 1976. Since then 30,000 trucks were sold which is considered as a strong indication of its success in the region.
A glance on the future
The all-new Canter Eco Hybrid represents a key milestone in achieving ‘FUSO 2015′, the company’s five-pillar growth strategy for the future introduced in October 2011. One of the five pillars is “Leader in Green Innovation,” meaning the company focuses on advances in Green Products, Green Factory and Infrastructure and Green Supply Chain to achieve an aggregate CO2 reduction of 7.5% by 2015.
The 5 pillars under FUSO 2015, the company’s holistic improvement program aimed to increase operational excellence in all aspects, are: ‘Leader in Green Innovation,’ ‘Profitable Global Player,’ ‘Efficiency Leader,’ ‘Customer Number One in Japan,’ and ‘Employer Number One in Our Industry and Our Markets.’ Through FUSO 2015, the company aims for significant increase in global sales, including an overall target to double international sales volume to over 200,000 units annually.
