31,608 seats in government educational institutions were available for students this year Yahya bin Salam Al Munthiri, acting director general of the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC), said that more than 4,000 seats in higher educational institutions in Oman are vacant for the 2014-15 academic year. “31,608 seats in government educational institutions were available for students this year. However, 4,312 seats, 14% of the total, remained vacant at the end of the registration process on July 26,” said Al Munthiri. He noted that the admission process for those who have already registered themselves, began last week and would be completed by August 26. While Al Munthiri did not detail the reasons why student registrations have lagged, he said that because of vacant seats in these institutions, the HEAC is expected to announce another registration period from September 2. Times of Oman had reported that among 56,561 Omanis enrolled in high schools, 59% were males and 41% females.
