The Government of Oman plans to announce a new National Educational Strategy before the end of this year. Providing a new road map based on past experiences, the new strategy seeks to overcome shortcomings with regard to quality of graduates, Oman Daily Observer reported. The new strategy is being designed to join the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education in a way that they work in a more co-ordinated manner, according to a senior official at the Ministry of Higher Education, who spoke at the Oman Observer roundtable conference on “Future of Quality in Oman’s Higher Education”. The strategy, yet to be discussed at a national workshop, will address a number of challenges facing the country’s educational system, such as the standard of English in Omani schools, mismatch between graduates’ skills and job market requirements and quality of education, among other things.
