: Tuesday, April 15 - 2014 @ 15:59

Qatar University (QU) students with special needs benefitted from a series of training workshops recently to acquire essential skills and abilities to enter the professional sectors of the labor market.

Forty students were oriented on essential life skills and personal tools needed to make an effective contribution to the respective work environments they opt to enter.

The workshops, conducted in Braille, were organized by the Career Qualifying Program of the Career Services Center (CSC) in collaboration with the International Center for Leadership Development. They form part of the Center’s ongoing commitment to equip students with opportunities to develop and upgrade their skills and capabilities in keeping with the changing needs of the labor market.

Special Needs Section head Dr Eiman Heji said: “Today, more and more graduates with disabilities are entering the Qatari labor market and bringing skill-sets that are much needed. Such workshops develop these skills and equip the students with a strong sense of self-confidence, self-esteem and independence, and ready them to join the world of work.”

The participating students felt the workshops to be invaluable to their needs and expectations, with 85% expressing satisfaction in a survey following the workshop.
