Teach For Qatar, a non-governmental organisation that re-invests young talent in the public education system, has signed memoranda of understanding with Supreme Education Council (SEC), Qatar Petroleum (QP), and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).

The MoUs were signed by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of TFQ, with His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education (on behalf of SEC), His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry (on behalf of QP), and Engineer Saad Al Muhannadi, President of Qatar Foundation.

“Teach For Qatar, alongside our partners, is seeking young people, academic achievers, and talented professionals to become transformational leaders in the classroom and the community,” said H.E. Sheikha Hind. “Thanks to the support of these notable institutions, we can inspire exceptional graduates and young professionals to be part of the solution,” she added.

Commenting on the significance of this MoU with TFQ, HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohamed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi, said, “TFQ’s goals are in line with the strategic aims of the Supreme Education Council, in reinstating nationwide respect for the field of teaching. We are working tirelessly in recruiting Qatar’s top talent to join this group of teachers, which will have a tremendously positive impact on Qatar’s future generations.”

TFQ is an NGO that attracts young leaders from various backgrounds and specializations, provides them with rigorous training, and then places them as teachers in independent schools across Qatar for a two year ‘fellowship’. Fellows continue to receive training, mentorship, and regular reviews throughout their full-time teaching jobs. Upon completion of the two-year teaching placement, Fellows can continue to contribute to the development of Qatar’s education system through career pathways developed by TFQ alongside Qatari institutions across various sectors. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Petroleum expressed QP’s pride in supporting the Teach For Qatar mission.

His Excellency said, “we hope that this agreement would enable young professionals with knowledge and skills in order to help enhance Qatar’s educational system, and to actively contribute to the efforts for sustained development.” “We encourage all those interested to take part in this initiative, and we are fully committed in raising awareness about it within Qatar’s energy sector,” Dr. Al-Sada added.

Engineer Saad Al Muhannadi, President of Qatar Foundation, said, “Qatar Foundation is extremely honoured and privileged to be joining this exciting initiative by providing Teach for Qatar guidance, support and expertise as part of overall efforts to further strengthen the public education system in Qatar.”

According to Mohammed Fakhroo, CEO of TFQ, the Supreme Education Council “Is a crucial partner for TFQ as they open the doors that make it possible for TFQ to have an impact on teachers, students and the education community.” He added, “Qatar Foundation and Qatar Petroleum are equally strategic allies, who share our vision of a nation built on excellence, and are known for their commitment to effecting change across Qatari society.”

Qatar Foundation will work closely with TFQ to provide fellows with access to their expertise and to their unique model of shared services. TFQ fellows will also benefit from the training programmes as well as QP’s endorsement of TFQ in Qatar’s oil and gas community. TFQ is the 32nd member of the Teach For All, recognized as one of the world’s 100 strongest NGOs in 2013 by the Global Journal. In the lead-up to the May 10 application deadline, Informational booths are available at Hamad bin Khalifa University Student Centre and Qatar University, where interested university students and young professionals can test their knowledge of core subjects, sample the teaching experience and interact with members of Teach For Qatar, and apply for the two year fellowship.
