More than 2600 people showed support to Earth Hour Oman 2014 by signing their pledges online and over 300 earth hour supporters gathered last Saturday at The Wave Muscat. By switching off with ESO for one hour, supporters committed themselves to making small changes to their everyday lives for the benefit of the environment.
Those who attended the event took part in a variety of fun and interesting activities including stargazing, a glow in the dark Berger painting activity for children as well as entertainment by Omani youth break dancers called ‘Legend Crew’, a traditional Omani band and acoustic band. The Omani sailors Raiya Al Habsi, Ibtisam Al Salmi and Raja Al Owaisi were there to foster awareness of the fragile state of the world’s ecosystems and spread the message that everyone has the power to create change.
The Earth Hour event was made possible by the support of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and Sohar Aluminum, Muscat Pharmacy, Towell Engineering and Oman Solar System. ESO is also very grateful to the Royal Opera House, and the Sultan Qaboos Mosque for their pledges to join the Earth Hour switch off. The results of how much energy was saved will be announced at a press conference organized in kind by Electricity Holding Group on Tuesday, April 1st.
