Jordan approves deal to build $2.4bn oil shale-fuelled power plant

Jordan’s energy and mineral resources minister, Mohammad Hamed has said the cabinet has approved signing an agreement for the construction of a $2.4bn oil shale-fuelled power plant by Enefit, Jordan Times has reported. The facility will be built by Enefit, which is owned by Enefit (Eesti Energia AS), YTL Power International Berhad and Near East Investments Limited, said the minister. To be set up on a build-own-operate basis, the plant’s 470-megawatt capacity represents some 15% of Jordan’s current overall electricity capacity of 3,200 megawatts.
