Lebanon urged to not drill for gas in disputed zone

: Thursday, April 03 - 2014 @ 02:09

A senior US official has said Washington is working on ways to resolve competing claims over disputed waters off Lebanon’s coast and advised the government not to drill until a deal on maritime boundaries is reached, The Daily Star has reported. “I think the most advisable policy for choosing where to drill is to reach an agreement on the disputed zone so there isn’t a disputed zone,” Amos J Hochstein, US deputy assistant secretary for energy diplomacy, told the daily. “I think it would be good not to touch the disputed zone until there is a resolution for this dispute,” Hochstein said, adding that most oil companies were not willing to risk drilling in disputed zones.
