Abbas Kazemi, managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said Iran’s oil refining capacity will exceed 2.2 mbpd with the launch of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery, the country’s top strategic project, Shana reported. Iran is a stable country in terms of energy security and fuel supply, he added. “In the last five years, the country imported diesel, gasoline, liquid gas and even mazut. This is while, currently, Iran is self-sufficient in the production of all the items, except gasoline,” he said. Kazemi stressed that at present; Iran only imports a small amount of gasoline and can export the other products. “This year, despite the 3-million-liter growth in domestic gasoline consumption, gasoline imports have declined by more than 3 million liters to reach 7 million liters per day,” he said.
