The international arm of Qatar Petroleum (QP) has signed an agreement with UK-based Centrica to acquire 40% of the latter’s Canadian natural gas business for £107m, Gulf Times has reported. The assets will be placed into Centrica and Qatar Petroleum International’s existing 60-40 venture, the CQ Energy Canada Partnership, and will sit alongside assets that were jointly acquired from Suncor, announced in April 2013, the two firms said. “This agreement will help strengthen QPI’s presence and strategic partnerships in North America, and boost Qatar’s global diversification, expansion, and investment efforts,” said the Qatari energy and industry minister, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada.
