For the third year in a row, SEDCO Holding Group will proudly celebrate Earth Hour by switching off its lights for an hour on March 29th between 7:00 and 8:00 PM, in the hopes of spreading a message to raise awareness for the planet’s environmental well being.
SEDCO Holding Group and its sub-companies will switch off their lights to underline their commitment to the cause and their support to the millions of people respecting the initiative.
Commenting on this, Anees Moumina, CEO of SEDCO Holding Group said: “The world is currently facing the effects of climate change due to deforestation and an increased consumption of energy resources. These have not only affected the environment but also human beings around the world and certain solutions must be developed in order to tackle this issue.”
He further stated, “We are proud to take part in this global initiative promoting environmental awareness, as it is our duty to preserve our resources, better the future for the upcoming generations, and service our country in all means possible. I encourage all of our employees to collectively join in on the biggest global climate awareness campaign, because together we can make a difference.”
Earth Hour is a worldwide event, which involves 154 countries, and is considered to be the largest global environmental initiative to tackle the planet’s greatest threat; climate change. Earth Hour is organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is held annually on the last Saturday of March, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
On this note, Mr. Mohammed Al Alawi, CEO of Red Sea Mall explained, “It is by the grace of God that the Kingdom is experiencing flourishing development, and due to these developments, our demands for natural resources grow as well. Everyone should be conscience of this and act responsibly towards the environment and reflect this sense of responsibility in their daily actions all year-round. And at Red Sea Mall we will decrease our lights by 70 to 80% during the said hour. We sincerely hope that our customers and employees will take the time to reflect on the symbolic meaning and the valuable legacy this leaves our youth with.”
As an example of the commitment and the positive change, SEDCO Holding Group aims to pursue a series of improvements, whereby they have put measures in place over the course of the last couple of years to regulate electricity consumption, which has lead it to decrease by 30-40%.
