Panasonic Marketing Middle East and Africa offices will join the well-known and important global warming initiative “Earth Hour” yet again this year. A global climate awareness campaign, Earth Hour 2014 will take place from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 29th, under the auspices of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
Earth Hour encourages communities, people, households and businesses to switch lights off for one hour as a symbol of commitment to the planet. Around 1 billion people worldwide participate and symbolically turn off lights during the 1 hour. It strongly promotes the concept of how every individual can support and make a difference in the battle against climate change.
In line with this and as part of the initiatives, Panasonic believes in setting pace and putting its foot forward by promoting activities supporting Earth Hour within the company to begin with. Along with switching off lights across its local and regional facilities, the company has urged every employee to join the cause, believe in it, support it and most importantly help spread the word.
The company has also taken steps to ensure that all its esteemed partners, dealers, agents and its valued customers are made aware on the concept of Earth Hour and are encouraged to support the cause.

As a company, Panasonic strongly believes that energy conservation need not be complicated – simple every day products like a light bulbs can have a significant impact. Panasonic’s simple and innovative everyday products like the CFL lights help save about 80% energy and reduce CO2 emissions.
These new spiral CFL lights are highly efficient and boast 10,000 hours of life, thus saving up energy.
In addition to the energy efficient products, Panasonic is also engaged in many corporate social responsibility initiatives that aim to create a sustainable world. Panasonic Corporation has launched the 100 Thousand Solar Lanterns Project, aiming to contribute 100,000 solar LED lanterns to people without access to electricity by 2018, the year of 100th anniversary for the company.
As first steps in this initiative, Panasonic has already donated 8,000 compact solar lights to non-profit, non-governmental and humanitarian organizations working to solve social challenges in Myanmar (3,000 units) and India (5,000 units), along with 2,000 lights to refugee camps in Africa in 2013.
Through the support and participation in this initiative and with corporate social responsibility forming a major aspect, the company will continue to support initiatives and highlight its strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
