A French media delegation representing various establishments visited Sorbonne Abu Dhabi and toured the campus, facilities, language labs, computer rooms, library and classrooms as well as other facilities provided to students.
The delegation met Paris – Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Vice Chancellor Pr. Eric Fouache, Dr. Fatima Al Shamsi, Paris- Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi deputy vice chancellor of administrative affairs and Dr. Fabien Chareix, Paris Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi deputy vice chancellor for academic affairs and faculty and students. Pr. Fouache welcomed the delegation and delivered a presentation about the university since its inception.
He gave them a clear idea about the available programs, touching on the university’s role in serving the local community. He underlined Sorbonne Abu Dhabi ‘s desire to deepen relations with other countries in an attempt to foster collaboration.
Pr. Fouache explained that professors came from Paris Sorbonne to teach in Abu Dhabi the same curriculum taught in Paris, thus providing a rich cultural program for greater self-development and deeper logical analysis. Sorbonne Abu Dhabi is keen on developing each student to integrate a society built on tolerance, cooperation and partnership.
He said, “Sorbonne Abu Dhabi offers a humanities and social sciences program . Also, it provides, in collaboration with Paris Descartes, programs in law, politics, management, and economics, in addition to the Physics track it launched with the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris. Sorbonne Abu Dhabi also provides a one year program in French to help students who have basic French skills enroll in the Bachelor’s degree. The certificate delivered at the end of the program is recognized in Paris and internationally.
Pr. Fouache indicated that Sorbonne Abu Dhabi was known for its cultural diversity giving students access to an environment that is enriching for their minds and lives, especially that students were from 65 nationalities. He highlighted Sorbonne’s firm belief in the dialogue of cultures knowledge transfer. Consequently, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi organizes all year round lectures, round tables and conference featuring regional and international experts who discuss topics from various disciplines.
Pr. Fouache emphasized that Sorbonne Abu Dhabi aimed to become a research and cultural center . Its research program demonstrates the most recent conclusions of global research in humanities. Upon the completion of their BA students have the possibility to enroll in the master’s program or join any of the departments in Paris.
Following the presentation, the delegation took a tour around campus, visited the library that is equipped with world class facilities, extending over two floors with a capacity of 200 000 titles and providing state of the art computers and an internet connection. The library also has a secure portal and borrowing system as well as a library management system.
Resources in the library include periodicals and references in literature, social sciences, and languages as well as references from other disciplines such as archaeology , geography, history, philosophy, economics, urban planning, communication, management and business. The delegation commended Sorbonne Abu Dhabi on its high academic level. Delegates expressed their amazement at the UAE achievements in all fields, mainly education.
Students who met the delegations asserted that Sorbonne Abu Dhabi gave them the opportunity to interact with people from around the world reflecting the cultural diversity on site along with the possibility to share knowledge, ideas and opinions. Indeed Sorbonne Abu Dhabi had an international environment that, for them, provided a new perspective on life.
