Launch of new app for Sweden guest of honor at ADIBF

: Wednesday, April 02 - 2014 @ 15:39

A public Facebook application presenting Sweden’s participation as Guest of Honor at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair was launched today. The app can be found through the Facebook page of the Embassy of Sweden in Abu Dhabi, accessible to all. On the app, you will find in-depth information about the guests in the Swedish delegation and the book fair events they will take part in, the activities in the Swedish pavilion, facts about Swedish literature and much more. The application can be found by clicking on the “Sweden Guest of Honor” icon at: https://www.facebook.com/EmbassyOfSwedenInAbuDhabi

Here, media can find features, interviews, and images of the Swedish guests – in Arabic and English – which journalists are free to use in their reporting.

The Swedish delegation will be headed by Mr. Henrik Selin, Deputy Director General of the Swedish Institute. Guests include Children’s Authors and Illustrators Martin Widmark, Jonathan Lindström, Stina Wirsén, Johanna Westman and Jan Lööf, who will each be holding a variety of interactive and fun activities for children. Other authors include crime writer Kristina Ohlsson, who will discuss the “Swedish Noir” crime phenomenon, best-selling fiction novelists Majgull Axelsson and Marie Hermansson, and award-winning historical novelists Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg and Monica Lauritzen. Poets include Professor Emeritus, Poet and Member of the Swedish Academy, Kjell Espmark, Syrian-Swedish poet Ghayath Al-Madhoun and Swedish poet Marie Silkeberg, who will discuss their book “To Damascus” – a one of a kind joint collaboration in Swedish and Arabic. There will also be a session led by Eva Bonnier, Chairman of the Swedish Publishers’ Association, on the theme of Poet and Nobel Laureate Tomas Tranströmer where Iraqi Graphic Artist Modhir Ahmed will show his work inspired by Tranströmer poems. Mohamed Abdulfutoh, e-book provider at International Media Network Services, will give insight into how this Swedish company has worked on facilitating the spread of electronic books in the Arabic-speaking world.

Renowned chefs who will cook for us in the Show Kitchen include Nobel banquet Chef Stefan Eriksson, Tareq Taylor, who will guide us into the fusion between Swedish and Arabic cooking, and Ulrika Davidsson, who will discuss healthy cooking and a raw food diet. We also expect a visit from 300-year-old scientist Carl Linnaeus, who invented the modern taxonomy system, to be impersonated by Hans Odöö.

We will also spotlight the indigenous people of Sweden – the Sami. Sami speaker and singer Sofia Jannok will perform her music as well as participate in a talk with a representative of the local Bedouin culture about the modern challenges of indigenous and nomadic people. There will also be performances by Opera Singer Vincent Hashmi and Tuba Player Sami Al Fakir.
