Italian Lifestyle show registers 12,160 visitors

United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, May 31 - 2005 @ 11:56

The exhibition was held from May 24 to 27 at Expo Centre Sharjah under the patronage of Sharjah Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi.

“Last year the number of visitors was 9,000, while this year it reached 12,160. This increase in the number of visitors and the numerous trade enquiries received by exhibitors reveal that the show was a runaway success,” said Mr Fasahat Ali Khan, Acting Director General, Expo Centre Sharjah.

Over 250 exhibitors displayed their products including building materials, gift items, furniture, home furnishings and home decorations, crystals and glass, lighting, food products and fashion accessories.

“It turned out to be such a good crowdpuller that most of the exhibitors have already confirmed their intention to participate in the next edition of the show,” he added.

The business generated during the show runs into millions of dirhams with many Italian companies signing deals with local and regional firms.

“It is our first participation in a trade show in the UAE. We are very happy with the turnout of large number of visitors. We have received more than 100 enquiries and we expect deals from some of the companies,” said Angela of Bertozzi.

Confirming that Bertozzi will be participating in the next edition of the show, Angela said: “The UAE is the best place to explore trade opportunities in the GCC and other South Asian countries. Our productline (linen, table cloth, bed cloth etc) was very much in demand by the visitors and many have praised their quality and design.”

“The response to the show has exceeded our expectations. We received more than 20 serious enquiries in the first two days of the show itself,” said Giovanni Ruggerone of Serramepal Pensiline In Alluminio.

“Many visitors have told us that our products have the best prices and designs which will give us a competitive edge over other countries’ products,” he added. He also plans to come back to Sharjah for the next year’s show.

The show also brought into focus the services provided by building contractors, architects and interior decorators. Julia of Studio Legale de Pasquale and Andrea Cini of Architects Associates — two among several service providers present at show — were of immense help to many visitors.

“Our firm can offer legal advice and assistance both in judicial and arbitration proceedings, international law and commercial & contractual matters,” said Julia, who is a representative of the Italian law firm in Dubai at the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the UAE & GCC.

In the field of international law, “our firm is specialised in all the services of initial guidance regarding international contracts such as joint venture, distribution, sale, agency agreements and franchise contracts forfeiting and also legal advice about customs, transportation and taxation,” she said.

The company also assists in founding of groups of companies and all kinds of foreign company transformations, mergers, divisions and winding ups.

“We are also active in the field of territorial marketing and we provide assistance for potential foreign investors in Italy,” she said.

Architects Associates is registered with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the UAE & GCC, and plans to set up an independent office in Dubai shortly. The firm is about to initiate its ISO 9000 certification procedure.

At the exhibition, the firm showcased a series of designs and plans for residential building projects.

“Our firm is reputed for planning and designing building products, particularly residential complexes of detached individual family units,” said Andrea Cini.

Other highlights of the show included a conference titled “International Competitiveness Rules for the Producers and Guarantee for Customers” organised by the UAE Businessmen’s Association and C.N.A. & Confartigianato Women’s Association and a live cooking demonstration, held throughout the show by the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners.

The exhibition was organised by the Italian Trade Commission, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the UAE & GCC Representative Office, ARTEX – Italy, and Expo Centre Sharjah and supported by the Ministry of Productive Activities – Italy, C.N.A.-Italy, Confartigianato-Italy and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
