Offshore Arabia will be inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Department, President and Senior Executive Officer at Emirates Group and in the presence of their Royal Highnesses, Ministers and high level dignitaries and VIPs.
Supported by the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water more specifically from H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, who is also the Chairman of the Higher Committee, Offshore Arabia shall re-enforce the commitment to energy, environment, advanced technologies, renewables and sustainable development.
A futuristic outlook to the region’s energy and environmental challenges will be discussed in order to support growth and development with a close attention to the region’s environmental needs and global prospective.
Mr. Khamis Juma Bu-Amim the Chairman of the Board of the Regional Clean Sea Organization and Vice President of Dubai Petroleum Company said “growth in all sectors within our region cannot be ignored nor should it be discouraged, but in fact it should unify us to support this growth and development with a total commitment towards sustainability in all areas.
Identifying the challenges that we are facing regionally in energy and environment would persuade us to come up with solutions to further encourage growth and sustainability.”
The Regional Clean Sea Organization and its members have been committed to serving the nations, and now sharing the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, they have all collaborated to organize an internationally acclaimed exhibition supporting a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
To ensure the success of Offshore Arabia 2006, leading local, regional and international companies and organizations concerned with the protection of the environment and the prevention of any obstacles that could affect its sustainability have officially supported the conference and the exhibition and they are : Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), Regional Organization for the Protection of Maritime Environment (ROPME), International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), The Regional Organization For The Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden (PERGSA), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Dubai Municipality, Dubai Maritime City & Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

Many prominent regional and international dignitaries who have come especially to interact with the exhibition attendees and think ahead for better solutions to the challenges facing energy and environment, will be conducting special sessions called “The Visionaries”. There will be four “Visionary sessions”. The first such session will host Mr. Mohamed Hamel Head of Energy Studies Department and In-Charge of research division – OPEC and Mr. Salim Al Ayedh, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Operations Services – Saudi ARAMCO, and Mr. Mohammed Bin Abdul Latif Al Omair, President and Managing Director – SASREF Refinery in Saudi Arabia. The subject of this session is “An Outlook into the Potential of the Middle East’s Energy and Opportunities, World Supply and Demand and Oil and Gas Future Outlook.
The second “Visionary” session will host Mr. Saleh B. K’aki, President and CEO – Vila International Marine Limited, and Col. Suleiman Al-Busaidy, Superintendent General – Pollution Control Operation at the Ministry of Regional Municipalities Environment & Water Resources in Sultanate of Oman, and Mr. Dimitris Mitsatsos, Director General – Helenic Marine Environmental Protection Association-HELMEPA. The theme of the second “Visionary” session is Marine Environment and Sea Transportation.
Moreover, Dr. Gavin Graham, Vice President-New Business Development for Shell EP in Shell International, and Dr. Omar Abdul-Hamid, Manager Research & Development Center in Saudi ARAMCO and Dr. Mohammad Saggaf, Manager E&PE Technology Department in Saudi ARAMCO will be speaking in the third “Visionary” session which will focus on New Technologies.
The fourth session shall be chaired by H.E.Mr. Mohammad Barkindo, Acting Secretary General – OPEC, and Mr. Mohammad Al-Gusaier, Vice President – Distribution & Terminal Operations in Saudi ARAMCO and Mr. Homero Vasques de Oliveira Ventura, Portfolio Manager for International Activities in Petroleum of Brazil (Petrobras). The fourth session will concentrate on the Regional Cooperation and Commitment to Ensure Environment Sustainability & Growth. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that Petrobras, the Largest Oil Company in South America, participates in an event in the Middle East.
The event will be wrapped up with awards for two contests; the Offshore Arabia 2006 Amateur Environmental Photography Award and the Offshore Arabia 2006 Environment Awards. Member companies and individuals will nominate themselves for the awards and will participate in different concepts aiming to present their “Best practices”.
This event is unique as its theme depicts the commitment of the oil companies and the governments of the Gulf region to energy, environment, advanced technologies, renewables and sustainable development.
