As the accelerating building, infrastructure and construction market continues to flourish in Qatar with $200bn projects in the pipeline ahead of the 2022 World Cup and realizing the Qatar National Vision 2030, Project Qatar 2014, which has enjoyed over a decade-long success in the region, has experienced from 12 to 15 May the effects of this growth as international and local companies came in their thousands to meet contacts, secure opportunities and close deals.

This year’s event, making its inaugural debut at the QNCC, received unprecedented support from distinguished guests including high profile dignitaries, nation ambassadors, members of the diplomatic community, esteemed pavilion hosts, industry delegates, company leaders, renowned personalities and key media.

Elite consultants and a wealth of expert commentators mutually came together from the construction, building materials and sustainable technologies industry to conduct business, gain insight into the latest trends and discuss key issues and best practice standards. The 11th International Construction Technology and Building Materials Exhibition was proud to attract a vast number of new global exhibitors and countries with 2,100 companies from 46 countries and 23 international pavilions.

The international pavilions have bolstered Project Qatar for over a decade and continue to provide their unprecedented support. Filip Tuma, CzechTrade Promotion Agency Export Consultant, said: “Project Qatar 2014 was a significant opportunity for CzechTrade as it proved to be a great source of viable contacts for all 7 introduced manufacturers, beginning with Crystal Caviar’s Luxury decorative glass and chandeliers, Rako’s ceramic tiles, Technistone’s synthetic stone, Osma’s plastic pipes to Mateiciuc’s plastic isolation wall-profiles and tubes, Riho’s complex bathroom furniture and accessories and IMP’s long-term experience in the field of engineering services. This year has been the greatest trade fair participation of Czech companies in Qatar yet. The plans for the CzechTrade’s Project Qatar 2015 participation are already in place so we can return with even greater representation of Czech high quality products and services to the ever growing Qatari market.”

This year’s edition of Project Qatar also featured two concurrent events: Qatar StoneTech 2014, the 3rd International Stone and Stone Technology show, and Heavy Max 2014, the 11th International Exhibition for Heavy Machinery.

In addition to the key exhibitions, Project Qatar 2014 was delighted to launch its prestigious Project Qatar Conference Series, in partnership with Advanced Conferences & Meetings (ACM), that included LightingTech Qatar and HVACTech Qatar. The conferences were held over the four days of Project Qatar 2014 to create a unique business platform for companies to network amongst leading consultants and meet local and international industry experts. It is to be mentioned that the Project Qatar Conference Series will also feature “Future Interiors Qatar”, set to take place on 8 and 9 September 2014.

The inaugural edition of the HVACTech Qatar conference brought together the best private and government project owners, planning bodies, contractors and consultants, utility operators and companies, regulators and solution providers in a specialized forum to address the latest technology advancements, opportunities and challenges in the HVAC and cooling industries with project case studies demonstrating how these advancements can best be applied to answer the specific requirements and challenges of the construction environment in Qatar.

The first day of the conference featured Tanween and NG Global discussing, designing and building sustainable HVAC systems. There were also demonstrations on integrating cost and engineering considerations into HVAC designs as well as discussing best practice industry standards and regulations. A number of case studies were featured; highlights included Qatar Foundation showcasing a case study about the advances in district cooling in Qatar at West Bay, Lusail City and Barwa City. The last day contained discussions about district cooling in Qatar, sustainable innovation and green initiatives and challenges – Qatar Project Management featured a presentation about decarbonization of the city of Doha, with a closing panel discussion from Tatweer UAQ Real Estate Development highlighted health and safety considerations into HVAC designs.

LightingTech Qatar 2014 was designed to address the lighting industry needs specific to the Qatari market. The conference allowed delegates and sponsors to experience the very best of both worlds; in terms of focused, specialized content and networking designed exclusively for the lighting sector.

Over the two days, there were a number of scheduled events and discussions, including the importance of LED lighting technology – Al Waseeta talked about their new joint ventures to manufacture LED technology in Qatar. Discussions were held on indoor and outdoor for landscape, road lighting and tunnel lighting and an address on the considerations of energy performance, quality of vision, future sustainability and cost savings. Qatar Project Management discussed different lighting technologies related to the Lusail City Project. Topics featured also included the sustainable approach to lighting design in buildings, solar power lighting and developing cost-efficient, visually appealing and energy saving spaces. High profile case studies included discussions on energy efficient lighting strategies, incorporating lighting into architecture and iconic structures, and façade lighting.

Tom Gore, ACM Managing Director, said: “Our delegates were brought together to discover the latest technology advancements, government regulations and best practice industry standards. Both these conferences were instituted to contribute to the fast growing demand in Qatar and the region for advanced sustainable technology deployment to support growing construction and infrastructure development. The feedback we received was very supportive of our technical seminars, live product demonstrations and latest case studies. Our delegates had nothing but praise about the chance to network exclusively with industry experts in their field as well as expressing their delight with the compelling content and benefiting from the entire Project Qatar experience. We are also looking forward to hosting “Future Interiors Qatar”, scheduled for 8 and 9 September.”

Project Qatar will return to the Qatar National Convention Centre from 4 – 7 May 2015.
