GMC Terrain earns 2014 Top Safety Pick+ ratings

: Sunday, May 04 - 2014 @ 15:31

The GMC Terrain with available forward collision alert technology, earned 2014 Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in its small overlap front crash test.

The test, in which 25 per cent of a vehicle’s front end on the driver side strikes a five-foot-high rigid barrier at 64 km/h (40 mph), is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle strikes another vehicle or an object like a tree or a utility pole.

“Earning the Top Safety Pick Plus designation speaks of GM’s focus on improving our vehicles by offering advanced crash avoidance technologies that can help avoid a crash, and by enhancing vehicle structure and occupant protection if a crash occurs. We are pleased that the IIHS has recognized the safety of the GMC Terrain with this prestigious rating,” said Virendra Agarwal, CEO of Moosa Abdul Rahman Hassan & Co LLC.

Previously as well, Terrain has been chosen as the Top Safety Pick. The criteria for 2014 Top Safety Pick+ status was revised to include vehicles offering a frontal crash protection system meeting IIHS requirements, as well as achieving a Good rating – IIHS’ highest classification – in four of five crash tests, and no less than an Acceptable rating in the fifth test. The 2014 Terrain received Good ratings in all five crash tests.

Superior safety features are a cornerstone attribute of the GMC Terrain. Built on a solid structure that includes strategic applications of high-strength steel to protect occupants in the event of a crash, the Terrain is equipped with several safety components to avoid crashes or protect occupants in the event of one. These include standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, traction control and rollover mitigation designed to improve vehicle stability on most road surfaces, especially during emergency manoeuvres. In addition, the Terrain also comes with standard tyre pressure monitoring system, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The forward collision alert technology uses a camera to detect when a driver is at risk of hitting the vehicle ahead and delivers visual and audible alerts. It is part of a safety package that also includes lane departure warning and rear park assist.

Along with forward collision alert, Terrain is equipped with six standard air bags, including dual frontal air bags, head curtain side air bags and pelvic/thorax seat-mounted side air bags; as well as a standard rear-vision camera that helps drivers identify objects behind the vehicle. The 2014 Terrain is available in all branches of Moosa Abdul Rahman Hassan & Co LLC, the exclusive distributor of GMC vehicles in the Sultanate of Oman.
