190,000 Omanis now working in the private sector

The number of Omanis working in the private sector who are insured and active increased by 4.4% to the end of Q2 2014, totaling some 189,931 employees, compared with 181,860 employees recorded working in the private sector at the end of 2013.

The report of Omanis working in the private sector insured and active, published by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) also reveals a decline in the number of employees receiving basic salary within the rate of 225-300 R.O. while during the same recording period the number of Omanis receiving higher basic salaries increased within higher salary grades.

The NCSI report details that the number of Omanis working in private sector insured and active and receiving a basic salary of less than 300 R.O dropped by 2.2% totaling 116,228 employees when compared to the end of 2013 figure which recorded 118,786 employees. However, during the same six month period those receiving a basic salary within the range of 300 – 400 R.O increased by 23.3% totaling 31,815 employees.

The number of Omanis receiving a basic salary within the range of 700-800 R.O also increased by 17.2% standing at 3,593 employees by the mid-year mark, compared with 3,066 recorded at the end of 2013. Meanwhile the total number of Omanis in the private sector receiving a basic salary within the range of 1,000 – 2,000 R.O increased to 6,912 employees at the end of June 2014, representing a growth of 16.6% when compared to end of 2013 total of 5,929 employees, while those receiving basic salary of more than 2,000 R.O increased by 15.5%, standing at 2,520 employees when compared with the end of 2013 figure of 2,181 employees.

Regarding the number of employees in private sector according to the governorate, the NCSI report revealed that the Muscat Governorate recorded an increase of 5.4% standing at 71,344 employees when compared with end of 2013 total of 67,693. Additionally, the number of employees at al Batinah North increased by 5.8%, recording 33,316 employees when compared with 31,500 employees by the end of 2013. Other governorates also witnessed an increase in the number of Omanis working in private sector with different rates.
