The number of Omanis working in the private sector and insured and active increased by 3.7% to the end of May 2014 totaling 188,669 employees when compared with 181,860 employees at the end of 2013.
A report of Omanis working in the private sector insured and active, issued by the National Centre of Statistics of Information (NCSI) revealed a decline in the number of employees receiving basic salary within the rate of 225-300 R.O. while the number of Omanis receiving higher basic salaries increased within the higher salary grades.
The NCSI report reveals that the number of Omanis working in private sector and receiving basic salary of less than 300 R.O declined by 3% or 3,519 employees totaling 115,267 employees at the end of May 2014, compared with December 2013 figure. However, those receiving basic salary within the range of 300-400 increased by 6,061 or 23.5% totaling 31,868.
Those receiving basic salary within 700-800 R.O also increased by 14.8%, totaling 31,868 employees at the end of May 2014 when compared with the December 2013 figure. Meanwhile, the total number of Omanis in the private sector receiving a basic salary within the range of 1000-2000 R.O increased to 6,853 employees at the end of May 2014, representing an increase of 15.6% when compared with the end of 2013 figure, while those receiving a basic salary of more than 2000 R.O increased by 15% when compared with the end of 2013, totaling 2,508 employees.
Regarding the number of employees in private sector according to the governorates, the report revealed that Muscat Governorate recorded an increase of 2,999 employee or 4.4 % when compared with the end of December 2013 totaling 70,692 employees.
The second was Al-Batinah North with a total of 33,183 employees when compared with 31,500 employee by the end of December 2013. Other governorates also witnessed increases in the number of Omanis working in private sector with different rates.
