Australia comes to MENA region – building relationship for future

: Tuesday, March 18 - 2014 @ 11:06

Australia Unlimited MENA 2014 builds on a successful event last year in Dubai, which took place shortly after the official launch of the Qantas-Emirates Alliance, which signaled the start of greater two-way trade between the Gulf Cooperation Council and Australia, rising 20% between 2012 and 2013.

The Australia Unlimited MENA 2014 debut event returns to Dubai but The Australian Trade Commission will also host events in Abu Dhabi on 14 April and Riyadh on 16 April, and other promotional events in Muscat, Kuwait and Rabat, where Australia will share its culture, cuisine and capability with a series of entertaining and informative events. A series of seminars are being organized where leading industry figures will showcase Australian expertise across a number of sectors including education and research, water resource management, food and agribusiness.

Australian Consul General to Dubai & Senior Trade Commissioner MENA, Gerard Seeber, said the program is a chance to celebrate growing trade, investment and education links. “Austrade is delighted to be hosting a roadshow in the region to build awareness, cultural ties and long-term relationships in bilateral trade,” Mr Seeber said. “Australia is well known in the MENA region for its physical beauty, which is partly why tourism has increased so dramatically in recent times, rising around 7% year-on-year to almost 119,000 visits in 2013. With this event we want to showcase our intellectual strengths too.”

Alongside Australia Unlimited MENA 2014, Food Water Energy Nexus, a policy forum organized by The Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR), will explore interconnections between food, water and energy security, as well as parallels and potential areas of cooperation between Australia and the Gulf.

This year’s event is supported by platinum sponsors Aconex and Qantas and gold sponsors the State Government Victoria Australia, S P Jain School of Global Management and Navitas Middle East & North Africa.
