Fifth National Genetic Diseases Conference kicks off September 14th

Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Educational Scientific Research and Chairman of the UAE Genetic Disease Association (UAEGDA), the Fifth National Genetic Disease Conference will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 14th to 17th September 2014.

The event is slated to attract more than 800 participants and 72 exhibitors from 32 countries, sponsored by world leading companies of molecular biology and genetics. Running under the theme ‘educate, nurture, prevent’, the conference will be organized by UAE Genetic Disease Association, for the 5th year in UAE.

The UAE Genetic Disease Association announced the launch of UAE International Award to Prevent Genetic Disease. The 5th National Genetic Disease Conference provides a platform for stakeholders to keep abreast of latest development in the field of genetic disease. The conference’s agenda will include sessions on awareness, counseling and psychological aspect of genetic disease and will also discuss updates on the management and prevention of psychosocial issues with emphasis on their impact in the UAE to raise awareness among healthcare professionals so as to provide effective counseling and treatment methods.

The conference will bring together high profile experts in the field of genetic diseases as well as local and international academia, physicians, and government healthcare providers. It will also give opportunities to students to showcase their presentations before a panel of expert judges. The conference will be managed by a committee elected by more than 80 regional and international scientific and research organizations. More than 80 guest speakers will tackle 25 topics and discuss 120 research papers related to cancer, blood diseases, genetic diseases, stem cells, parasitic diseases, Immunology and histocompatibility as well as genome, and biotechnology.

The UAE International Award to Prevent Genetic Disease is the crown jewel of 5th National Genetic Disease Conference, as it is considered to be a first of its kind in the Arab World. The Award will consists of five categories related to genetic diseases, namely personality of the year 2013-2014, best health organization conducting scientific research in genetic disease, creative scientific research in genetic disease, best media contribution to prevent genetic diseases, best research in the field of genetic disease in addition to the 1st Middle East Molecular Biology Congress and Exhibition.

On this context, Founder and Chairperson of UAE Genetic Diseases Association Dr Maryam Matar, said, “The 5th National Genetic Disease Conference will host hundreds of professionals who will partake in Molecular Biology Congress from Saudi Arabia. She also noted that the conference will feature community initiatives related to breast cancer researches and hereditary angioedema, etc, the reason for which the UAE Genetic Diseases Association was established to raise the public awareness in this regards.”

It is noteworthy that the Fifth National Genetic Disease Conference is organized by the UAE Genetic Diseases Association in collaboration with the Middle East Society for Molecular Biology, King Abdullah International Medical Research Center, Dubai Biotechnology & Research and Saudi Society for Genomic and Molecular Oncology – SSGMO; in addition, prominent international organizations of molecular biology and genetics.
