One of the year’s most significant community volunteer projects came to a close today when officials from Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), Qatar’s leading non-profit and community development organization, issued a statement thanking hundreds of volunteers, its exclusive sponsor and local partners for contributing to the outstanding success of ROTA’s 8th Annual Ramadan Project, “Sharing Blessings.”
In its eighth Ramadan Project to date, ROTA once again delivered a truly remarkable campaign that impacted the lives of many across the country. In partnership with OXY Qatar, and with the support of hundreds of volunteers, ROTA hosted a series of community iftars, celebrated a number of Garangao events with children in different local hospitals, packed and distributed groceries for over 200 families in need, and renovated six kindergarten classrooms and an outdoor playground at the Bangladesh School in Abu Hamour. A silent auction was also held to support ROTA’s My Education… My Hope Campaign which raised over QR 220,000(TBC) proceeds to support five ROTA educational projects in Nepal, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Yemen.
“Thank you and congratulations to each of our incredible volunteers for working tirelessly for their community – not only as caring neighbors, but as role models. In addition, I would like to thank our exclusive sponsor and long-time partner, OXY Qatar, for making this significant undertaking possible. The impact of Sharing Blessings, which aimed to give back to the community that has given us so much, will be felt by families in need, students and civic workers in Qatar beyond the Holy Month of Ramadan,” said ROTA Executive Director Mr. Essa Al Mannai.
ROTA’s Volunteer Program worked closely with the Social Development Centre (SDC), and Qatar Foundation’s Facilities Management Directorate to benefit from their unique expertise and maximize the local reach and impact of ROTA’s Ramadan 2014 Project.
“This is the eighth successful year for ROTA’s Ramadan Campaign,” said ROTA’s National Program Director, Mr. Mohamed Al Saleh.” I would like to personally thank all our partners and most importantly our dedicated volunteers for supporting us throughout the entire month. Our volunteers showed true enthusiasm and dedication in every task they took on – big or small. I want to thank them for making a difference in so many lives throughout the Holy Month. This show of generosity and humanity captures the essence of volunteerism and spirit of Ramadan.”
Mr. Stephen Kelly, President and General Manager of Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. (Oxy Qatar) commented: “For the Third year in a row, Oxy Qatar has had the privilege of sponsoring the ROTA Ramadan Project. We have seen how this year’s program built on the success of last year’s, and we hope to see it continue to grow in the years to come. Our sincere thanks to all the volunteers and everyone working behind the scenes to make this campaign possible.
“It was a privilege and honor to be a part of this year’s ROTA Ramadan Campaign. It was a truly memorable and rewarding month. From meeting and working with great people, to sharing a meal with the elderly, to seeing children smile, I will cherish my experience as a ROTA volunteer for a long time and plan to do more in the future. I am glad that I could contribute to a worthy cause,” said Aljazi Al Marri, ROTA volunteer
