Speaking at a celebration event held at SDC and attended by members of staff and partner organisation, Ms Amal Al-Mannai, Director General, commented that the certifications are part of the Center’s commitment to the community.
“SDC has put in place the best international standards for management and ethical sourcing because these measures will improve the services that the center provides to the community. To do so has taken much hard work, and as the first NGO to receive these highly prestigious certifications we would like to lead by example. The certifications are a testament to the hard work that SDC employees put in every day to ensure that the Center continually improves and delivers the high expectations that we have from the people we help to the partners who share our mission. I thank them all for their support”, she added.
The awarding of the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System, which ensures quality of performance and the running of a management system that delivers to the highest standards, is the first to an NGO in Qatar. SDC is the first organization in Qatar to be awarded the SA8000:2008 Social Accountability International, the new standard to be developed under the auspices of the USA’s Council on Economic Priorities Accreditation Agency (CEPAA). It is the first ‘auditable’ international standard to cover working practices and is based on Conventions of the International Labour Organization, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
