The inaugural Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership (QIAL) recipients have been honoured during the IIA’s International Conference held in London.

Notably, three of the twelve candidates received the qualification are UAE National headed by His Excellency Riyad Abdulrahman Al Mubarak, the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority, Abdul Qader Obaid Ali- Chief of Internal Audit in Dubai World and Aisha Bushlaibi- Head of Internal Audit Office in Ajman Municipality & Planning Department.

The new qualification is an exclusive accredited qualification that was developed by the Institute of Internal Auditors in collaboration with its accredited associations, especially The United Arab Emirates Internal Audit Association (UAE IAA) with its direct and intensive contribution in providing the best environment for the pilot project test for the best in class accredited qualification in the field of internal auditing globally, where it will be considered equivalent to a master’s degree and requires applicants to have 5 – 10 years relevant experience in the position of chief audit executive (CAE).

The initial testing stages were divided to two stages. Namely the Alpha testing stage which was conducted by the IIA within the United States of America where the criteria for choosing candidates were: a. number of years of experience as a CAE; b. service in public/private sectors; and c. diversity in ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

The IIA chose the UAE to host the Betatesting stage, having met all specified criteria. Sixteen candidates were carefully selected by the IIA, out of which eleven candidates passed the Beta testing stages with exceptional results. As the UAE IAA hosted the Beta testing stages successfully, IIA has announced the UAE IAA as the main and only certified testing centre of QIAL exams in the MENA Region until 2020.

QIAL tests are conducted in four phases, out of which the first three phases are written exams conducted within ten hours in total. Candidates can either attend the tests in person at a certified centre associated with the UAE IAA or by supervised online tests. The fourth and last phase is conducted over two hours, where the candidate will give a 30 minute presentation followed by a thorough interview by the examiners for the remaining hour-and-half regarding the presentation. At all phases, the exams are reviewed thoroughly before providing the final results.
